So the nwb200 doesn't require a max level of water??
I would hate having to keep a consistent level of water in the sump

I use the sump as a level for my ato.  The tank always keeps a constant level, but the sump shows evaporation.  Good place for a float valve and an ato unit.

Yup whatever chamber your return pump sucks from is where you will see the level fluctuate

Haha ya I know, I got an auto top off unit set up too... But it's only 5g... So on my system that's lasts 2-3 days. An I don't always remember to top up so the water level does change a bit... And I don't want a skimmer that has to have a constant water level

my skimmer is in the first section of my sump where the water comes in from the display and the baffles keep the water level constant ,.power on, off, evaporate, top off, whatever,, it stays the same , and i like that level to be higher than what my skimmer wants , so i have the skimmer raised up a bit off the bottom of the sump...

so basicly im asking, does the nwb2000 need a constant water level?

because the xp2000sss is out of the question now if i need to raise it 5", because then it wont fit in my stand.

I have a swc 150 in my sump it is in 9 inchs of water theres a baffle at the 9 inchs. Ad the water flows into the return pump section. ..if i shut my pumps off for feeding.  The water all rushes back into the sump. And when its one inch over the 9 inchs it start fulling up the collection cup and some foam runs out the cup cap ..so yes im thinking yur water level has to be spot on ..

You don't need to raise your skimmer 5", you need 5" of water in your sump. Meaning height of water in your sump.

this wont work you will have to install baffles and depending on what skimmer you will have to figure that out before you measure your baffles and put them in .

Peter I'm pretty sure the externals are made designed differently .. So skimmer depth is not a. Issue

To tell ya the truth I'm not exactly 100% positive on it but my guess would be if they r external depth isn't an issue . I'm not even sure how they work do they use a pump or does it just use te water draining from the display idl I've seen a few different types but have always used in sump

lol so this just got a whole lot more complicated then getting a new skimmer... great....

its no easy task to pull a hardplumbed sump out and throw baffles in it... not something i plan on doing either...
maybe i should look to external but i dont have the space for that either....

my auto top will have to be redone to lower the water level atal... and i would hate to have my water level at 5.75" because that would destroy my system if i forgot to add top off water..., would run my return dry  :?

i suppose you could build another sump, with baffles and such,to swap out your current sump, something than might only take a couple of hours max, with good flow in your display i would think your system could tolerate the stress for that short of time, but that just an opinion that i have had to use myself once or twice in the past

why not just look for a skimmer that works well in 9" of water? I have mine in almost 10" and it works great. Why not go with one of the Marine Sources Skimmers, I think they can handle 9" of water just fine.. or space it up with 2 piece of egg crate and you still have 5" clearance
