So I was just looking into my tank before bedtime (yes PS4 till 5:30 am.... lol)

and I spotted a HUGE crab. This thing was quite a bit bigger than a toonie. Had little spikes all over him. I tried to remove him with no luck. He skittered away into the rockwork.... How do I get him out?!?! Better yet is this thing reef safe?!?! Can crabs eat SPS?

If it's hairy and has black tips on the claws it most likely a bad one, catch him with a trap and food if ur lucky. They eat fish

not missing any fish but I never bought this crab. He is fairly large so I would have seen him in his current state if he hitch hiked. This guy must have been in here a while now....

I've had one too, they hide very well, my guess is a guerilla crab, Google it and see if it's one of those. They are opportunistic meat eaters, meaning given the chance they will eat a fish

If its a bad crab and you can't catch it then toss in a zebra moray.  They're reef safe and won't eat your fish.  You just can't keep crabs and shrimp with them.

No way a crab got that big in the time you've had your tank, it was just socketed away in a piece of the rock.  I had one that would bulldoze zoas.  Had no idea why 10 zoas would disappear overnight until I caught the little bastard at 4am munching away. Took me a while to find his hidey hole after that.

I've used a clean beer bottle with some bait in the bottom, say krill shrimp etc..
The key is to angle the beer bottle greater than 30 degrees, put the mouth of the bottle close to where the crab lives, make sure he can access it.  Usually after the lights go off, once he goes in he will be unable to climb the slippery glass walls out.
Works with mantis shrimp as well.
Then when you wake up you can remove the unwanted guest, and problem solved ;)
Good luck.

White i have this topic up. How bad are hermits? They kill snails. I know that for sure cause many of mine are wearing shells of snails I have bought lol. Should I be tossing this guys in my sump till I can find a home for em?

I have at least 12 hermits all red legs, they are still wearing the same shells the came with 2 years ago and they don't bother anything in the tank, I like having them personally.

I have some blue legs and some red legs.

A few of them have upgraded their mobile homes via larger snail shells.... little bastards....

Of the mystery crab?

I have no idea where the thing went. If Glen is right and this thing has piggy backed from day 1 with my live rock, then that means in like 9 months I have only seen it once.... lol.
