Im wondering if stray light can cause cyano?does this sound plausable?the right side of my tank gets hit with ligh for probably a solid 5 hrs before the lights come on?will light from a tv affect it, my tank is literally right beside my tv. I cant test phosphates rigtht now because i dont have a test kit atm. But ive been battling algae and cyano for awhile. It staryed woth brown hair algaw and a mox of cyano, at this time i put in a two little fishes phosban reactor with eheim phospahe removal media. The vrown algae dissapeared and cyano slowly backed off but came back in full force.couldve been caused by lack of media change. But still cant seem to get rid of it. Lookig for some different methods of attack. Im looking into getting my rodi water tds tested, as that could also be an issue.

Probable more due to flow characteristics in your tank than light from a tv, physical removal and nutrient control best at this point, sounds like your tank is fairly new so could be a cycle.

Very low impact from TV light. If you would have direct sun light .... maybe.

Do you not have a tds meter on your RODI unit?  I find that some times my DI resin doesn't last very long.  Is yours the colour changing type?

Oh.  That could be your problem.  I'd make sure your carbon and your GFO are changed regularly.  There may still be lots of stuff in it.

even this shouldnt matter, my tank is directly beside a large bay window and gets direct sunlight through the side glass all summer long and its no issue. i have read this tho, but i think its more a "the nutrients are there already, and the added light just makes the algae worse" case
