I buy almost exclusively over the Internet and have been for many years.... Eventually your gonna run into this situation.... You can blame the company or companies all you want but in reality they are all vulnerable to this threat. If you want to reduce the risk then your only option IMO is to stop purchasing online or doing any online banking..... But even then this will not make you 100% except.... There are still other ways they can get your info....My credit card has been compromised over a dozen times, I've experienced identity theft twice, one of my online banking accounts was hacked, my paypal was hacked twice (this is the only time I never recovered all the $$ fully, so you can believe PayPal is safe all you want, but it is far from the truth), and my Home Depot credit card was compromised once too.... That's all I can remember off hand.... Might be more too lol
Just this week somebody has been trying to log into my CanReef forum account but got the password wrong enough times that the account was locked out....
So far I haven't seen any fraudulent transactions on my CC, even though I did purchase through BRS in January..... None of my electronic devices would allow the transaction to go through (kept getting an error) and so I had to call and place order over the phone. IMO BRS has been rather decent about the whole matter.... There are many companies out there (and by many I mean most) that will not go through the efforts BRS is to correct this issue and help those who were affected.
