125gal Complete Re-construction

so that time is here. as alot of you know i had an unfortunate blowout on a seam in my lovely reef and almost ended my reefing days in a hurry. luckily i saved almost all livestock minus a couple sps frags and a couple colonies but had i lost all 4 ai sol modules i would have packed it in ( thank god for planning and preparation it sure saved all my electronics keeping them up high and off the ground).

Since the integrity of the tank has been compromised it is completely getting re-built with nothing other than scs1200 . Now thats some seriouse silicone. This sucker is gonna get a super low profile c2c overflow drilled through to a back box where i can hide a beananimal drain system well out of sight only plumbing i will see in tank is where the 2 returns are coming in through the back pane.

If my computer didnt crash 3 days ago i would have had a google sketchup model to see but will add one in the future since theres alot to do in the meantime.

As of now tank is on floor on foam. top rim is off, just need the bottom rim off and i can start cutting apart the panes for cleaning. Will more than likely take the front pane to tri county to buff out the scratches since a couple of them are deeper than i can buff out...... pics will happen of the whole process so stay tuned

already gettin one pane polished so they will know the size if i crack it drilling.... bottom is labelled tempered so hopefully it goes well

I doubt you'll have any issues drilling. To be honest, if I can do it as many times as I have with no problems, I'm amazed it can be screwed up

Haha sadly, there are no new tanks in my near future. And it's like going to the casino... expect to lose!

i worry even less when the tank only cost me frags not 100's of $$$.... should have just re-built the whole thing the first time not just a re-seal but oh well lesson learned the sad thing is it prob wont be running again till i move

thanks reeferkeeper my braided got me half way through the front pane then snapped so opened guitar case and grabbed a spare string worked like a charm here is the front panel off with the rest to follow (having a clamp that double as a spreader made it super easy and fast to get the sides cut)

Looks like you are well on your way. Good luck on the re-build. When are you moving? Do you have definite plans? Will it be in the near future so that you can get this tank up and running again? (Can you tell I want you to be able to get this tank running again, LOL ?)

main reason im not gonna set it up till i move is because i really dont want to do a tank transfer the way i did with the leak, besides it will give me time to aquascape without worry of crushing coral thats sitting everywhere lol. unfortunately wont be for at least a year still trying to find a place that a.) we like and b.) can afford lmao but till then i got a very large footprint 90 only issue is its a shallow tank ( was made to be a huge frag tank) and me being 6'4" viewing isnt the greatest but is looking pretty good. This beast tho will be very nice once complete and prob become an in wall but who knows possibilities are limitless at the moment .

Once i get a new laptop ill be able to make a 3d model on google sketchup of how im gonna do it

yes ive spent the past 10 years doing residential and commercial sloped and flat roofing but recently became manager of the flat division as well as foreman.... we also do rubberized flooring, stucco, parging, expansionjoints and protective coatings lol

oh really.... i have a few nano technology sealers that work as anti graffitti as well for concrete and natural stone and is cheap and easy for what you get i may have to send you a few links lol and ya not much shade on a roof so only thing on me that is still white is my ass lmao

well finally got this b**** apart and somehow still have all my finger tips attached this was the first tank ive ever taken apart where the razor didnt fit between the panels it took some ingenuity to rig my 90 degree clamp to give an anchor point to use the spreader against just so i could cut the silicone.... even the thin guitar string wouldnt fit.... makes me double think anything made by perfecto no wonder my back panel blew it was almost glass on glass arghhh.

So far i have scraped all the sillicone off of the two sides and the bottom now just gotta scrape the front and back pane and im ready to start scrubbing with acetone (can already feel brain cells dying just thinking about it ) then will get that back drilled am pretty sure im using the sch 80 bulkheads but gonna double check the style first because i only get one shot at it.

For the frame were still waiting on a reply apparently the extra tall are hard to find 4 places said no waiting for the last one if too much im just gonna euro and crossbrace the top with 1/4" glass and add some bracing on the bottom with glass ( please dont try this unless you realy know how to work with glass or have built many aquariums its too easy for thing to go terribly wrong).
