My fav fish but i can live without one in my tank but the wifey really wants me to get it! She says im spending so much money on corals and crap and not getting a tang for her... So question is! Can a get a reallly small one and have it in and maybe by the time it grows ill upgrade tank anyways! If not just give him away....

I'm a believer in tangs in less tanks then a 90 gallon but I wouldn't put one in a 40 gallon or less the issue is the like to have swim room and a lot of liverock to graze . Your biocube aren't made for swimming so id have to say you'd really be risking the stress level on any tang .

There are two issues with your theory. We all know how tempting it is to get stuff we realllllllllly want. First issue even though you get a small one a Tang is a very active fish always in motion swimming around . Even a small one needs lots of room . They get up to 8 inchs or so. Second issue is will your wife let you get rid of the fish after you have had it for awhile?

Sounds like you already knew what we were all gonna say. I've seen some really tiny yellow tangs for sale. Stock your tank with a little guy. Maybe you would consider a aquacultured tank bred fish, so it doesn't know any better.

Because a Tang will end up loosing it's mind and bashing the glass and most likely trying to do anything it can to commit suicide, unlike the corals you buy.

It is a great excuse to go bigger. I do not think you will find much love here about tangs in a nano tank.

I have seen tangs in small tanks get extremely aggressive and attack other fish and start to be destructive to corals. Even if you place it in the tank on a temp basis what will you do if you can't catch it? Take the tank apart? Not very likely. A tang in a small tank is like a horse in a shed.
