No you don't, when you when you wake up in the morning at a quarter to freaking one in the morning you realize that your return pump has failed and scramble in your boxers half asleep fixing it. I have been meaning to take a look at it as it has been running oddly for the last 2 weeks. Luckily I had a replacement pump ready to go. I have no idea what happened to it, I just removed it and put it into a bucket of salt water and hopefully looking at it tonight.

i usually only keep a back up heater. I do have some replacement parts for my return pump that i haven't got around to installing, but would hate to have $600 beast of a pump lying around for spare. Probably my 2nd worst nightmare aside from the tank springing a leak. Also been up all night when i broke my sump tank, and had to find a replacement quick and silicone in baffles and what not. That was not a fun day

I can imagine not. I am just running Jebao dc12000 pumps. So no harm having an extra. Plus my tank would have been shut down for possibly days without a backup pump. Heaters I can just grab at the local pet store, but nearest place that sells a pump for my use would be London and I would need to probably miss a days work.

0 clue what is wrong with the other pump. I narrowed it down to the pump itself. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. So in the market for a new back up. Got my money's worth out of it at least lol.

Hey torx ,I don't mean this in a sarcastic smart ass way .. but I'm been wondering about what pump to by for a future 90-120 gallon (hopefully the 120;)) , but anyway I love jebao powerheads would you still recommend a pump like this ? I see that they are fairly priced around $125 did that come with a controller as well

My backup pump is a jebao dc12000 and I am looking at a new back up of a dcs12000. Yes I recommend the product for the price range. Yes it comes with the controller.

What a rotten thing to happen at 0100! Glad you had a way to fix it fairly easily.

My last disaster was a leak at the seam of one of my tanks. I was extremely lucky that I just happened to pick up a tank someone had thrown to the curb and I had tested it for leaks the week before. Everything got transferred with no loss of life. My floor, on the other hand, buckled and lifted a good 4" off the ground! (hardwood floor). I dried it out with a fan over a few days but it was still buckled. I figured I would fix it when I got some time off but now after 2 months of drying on its own it has leveled itself out again! :) Something I never thought I would see as I thought the wood had swelled beyond fixing.
I, also, have a second pump on hand just in case but, touch wood, have never had to bring it into play.

They are coming out with a flow monitoring module...eventually...at some point in the near or not so near future.
