When will hair algae subside?

I've been battling green hair algae for about 6 months. I started my tank last summer using tap water  :-\ I bought an RODI unit 3 months ago. I've done ridiculous water changes since then. I've drastically cut back on feeding. I've been dosing carbon for 3 months. For the last month I've been using Seachem PhosGaurd and Boyd Chemi Pure Elite in media bags with good flow. Also growing Chaeto. My skimmer has really slowed down the last 2 weeks (compared to before). I've finally got my water down to zero PO4. I've had 0 Nitrates for a couple months now. Now that my parameters are good (and if I maintain water quality), when will I see the HA start to subside?

Thanks.

Edit: I run 3 month old ATI's for 8 hours.

Well, since you have stopped its food source, soon.

Only way to get rid of any algae, and most other pests, is to starve it. So, let it be, and it will die off. Don't start ripping it out of the tank. If you do that, you have reduced the demand on the food supply (there is aways something to feed algae) let the algae take up the food. It will start to brown out, and then almost fall off the rock. That is when you remove the dead/dying stuff. Let the rest starve off too!

Need more patience without drastic changes to your regime. J_T is 100% correct, just let it die out and cycle through the tank. Hair algae has to feed on something, once the food is gone, then it will start to die off slowly.

Also, test your top off/water change water for phosphates. If you are reading phosphates in your top up/water change supply, then your tank could be reading 0 as the cheato and algae is eating what you are pouring in the tank. Basically if your new water has phosphates, then you are just feeding your algae every time you add water.

Thanks for the help. I'll just keep on keepin on then. I sometimes test my topoff water. When I do, it always reads zero PO4. My TDS meter always reads close to zero ppm. I don't let water sit in buckets - just run my RODI unit as I need it. I have a Foxface that seems to be eating algae all day long. But he doesn't really put a dent in it. If I don't see any progress in a month, I'l probably get a GFO reactor.
