Hey everyone. Just thought I'd update the salt conversation as there are some newer salts out there and looking for input. I've now been in the reef hobby for a year and a half + and have been using Aquaforest Reef Salt. I like the results i get but most of the time it takes a drive of an hour or so to resupply. Any input respectfully submitted is valued. Thank you all in advance for your responses.

I was using Red Sea Coral Pro and just switched to Aquaforest, about 2 pails in now, I should clarify first was 180g pail, then bought the 200g brown box. I don't notice really and change from one to the other. It does mix well and doesn't leave anything behind, so I'll probably stick with that.

Half way through my first blue box of Fritz

Seems fine. Happy so far. Use an extra scoop to make the same 5gal pail of mix compared to the aquavitro I was using.

Good price too

Reef crystals for almost 10 years. I can't say enough nice things about it, and easy to get at petsmart, and they deliver. It's fallen off the map a bit lately only because a lot of suppliers can't get it, so they push different brands, but if you want healthy sps, there's nothing better.

Reef crystals is dirty lol it’s a good salt if you use it right away but if you store it for any period of time it has a lot of crap that precipitates out.

I've stored the stuff for up to 2 years (love the bulk box sales), and never had even a blip on the radar as far as my tests, so I don't believe this is true. This sounds like something a salt salesman would say lol

I used IO RC for 5 years, works amazing for sps also stated above, as stated above aswell leaves crap( calcium scaling dropout from high alkalinity)in the mix barrel if left for more than a couple days mixing, switched over to FritZ Pro Red box and won't look back, mixes clear in minutes, farely stable in a hour(24hrs best results), anyone who reads this needs to switch over, lol

Lol, your colours and results were unreal on RC. Didn't you just ask if you could dupe some sps into my tank in case yours crashes again? ;)

Didn't realize his salt choice knocked out the power to the house. I would change salts immediately. :p

I’ve used aqua forest reef salt , get it in a box (largest the offer) on reefsupplies $59.95 for 25kg box , can’t really go wrong , but beat to get salt that’s more in line with what you want to keep in the tank .

Good to see all the choices, anybody use D&D by H20, the numbers are good,, IO Reef Crystals seem to be popular. I bought a pail from a guy on kijiji. He said it was original IO; i thought i use it for cycling then switch to a better salt once i put coral in the tank. What do you think. The price was 20 for the full pail.

@Seasquirt dont get hung up on salt most / if not are all “good” they just have different levels for different corals
And you’ll be fine to start with and switch salt , I was aquaforest for years now switch over to blue box
And why ?
Just because I can get it in town was main reason , didn’t wanna pay for shipping and have a banged up box all the time or worst it gets wet and falls apart..

Thanks, I'm not sure what i will go with, what ever i can get easily. IO Reef CRystals or Tropic Marin look like the likely choices.
