I a man curious what all of you with big systems use for a heater? When I am done with my new system build I figure I am going to have at least 300gal. I don't want a heater that will be constantly running, but that being said I am not sure what is the better way to go. Bigger but on less or mid size and constantly on. What do you guys think ?

3 x 300w heaters. That way if one fails ON it will not cook your tank. If it fails off, the other 2 can still keep up. It will not be constantly on no matter what.

I remember you describing that build. I don't know if I have the room to do that.
I can't take credit for the idea someone else posted on here first and with his idea to improve from his design mine has worked flawlessly. Would highly recommend it.

Hot water definitely the way to go, it costs a little more up front but is saving me 40 to 50 bucks a month in hydro, paid for itself in no time.

I'm running a 500w and a 400w off of 1 controller and and 300w on its own set to a bit lower temp

I've never run out, I have one 300 watt heater set 1 degree lower than tank temp, I have my apex set up to email me an alarm if that heater turns on, never got an email.
The girls will get out of the shower before the water heater temp drops below 90 degrees so still heat for the tank.

I love this project so much. Heck, if you set the pump on a UPC then you would still be able to heat your tank on extremely low usage. It would probably last on a backup for quite a while.

This hot water method seems to be they way to go if your sump in in the basement.
I think I might go with 2 or 3 Finnix 300w titanium rods and run them off my apex.
