You can't not pay rent for any problem you have in an apartment that will just get you evicted if the landlord just does not fix problems you need to go to the landlord tenant board

It's illegal to evict over refused payment when refusing repairs.... Taking action is consulting the tenant board. I had 4 months rent free due to a leaky roof :) too bad they didn't wait longer changing a bucket in the attic once in a while was worth free rent. Took me to court judge pretty well told then to pound salt as they failed to maintain the tenant agreement.

I asked around and heard that i can get this paint and its like a bandage to stop the mold. I dont know if i renew my rent applicatiok thats up in june so maybe I should just use the paint for now... id ask the tenant to pay for it though.

Albz putting mold paint will usually cover it up for a bit but odbiously doesn't solve the problem but should seal it up a bit. Scuba Steve you may of been refused an eviction. Not sure why but legally if you have a problem with repairs not being done a form needs to be filed and you then need to pay the land lord board your rent until the board desides the outcome. But this site not really for these kind I discussions I was just trying to help out the guy and stop him from getting in trouble.

Of coarse he did. $30 fix vs $3000 dollar fix. I am sure they are just hoping it will mask it long enough for the lease to be up. I have been lucky in my life and had mostly good landlord over my 10 years of renting. My dad was also a landlord over a split house. I know of many, many bad ones too though. As the previous posts say, this fix is just a band-aid hiding a much bigger problem. If there is mold or moisture, you are just trapping it on either side. If there is moisture in the walls, then it will get bad and quickly after painting. That can lead to life long respiratory illness/issues/disease and/or worse.
