Is it close to a window? if so then their is cold air coming in around the window. if its in the middle of the wall then its a lack of insulation. both can be fixed.

No.. there is not. .. it's definitely an insulation and vapor barrier issue... .. if it's a rented house not much you can do but renovate that wall and personally if it's rented I would not bother...

you could try taking the trim off the window and use low expansion spray foam around it to seal it up...if its the whole closet on an exterior wall then i'd bet the builder didn't put insulation in it.

i got no clue lol.. its just gets nasty there even mold sometimes.
I'D say this is an ongoing issue that's been there way before you moved in. There will be mold inside that wall as well.... does that wall get reallly cold compared to other walls... or it could be a leak in the roof that has worked it's way to that area of the house. But what ever it is mold is not good.

Is it just surface water on the drywall/plaster or does it look like the drywall/plaster is deteriorating because of the water?

post a pic if you can, and then contact your landlord.
They have neat methods of insulating walls, they just drill a small hole and fill the entire cavity with sprayfoam.

We recently renovated our kitchen, and in doing so we removed the tile backsplash which was only ten years old. The drywall it was affixed to appeared to be slightly moist. It was from the range hood vent condensating in the wall and the dry wall sucking it up. The vent comes directly from outside. This is probably similar to what is causing your issue. The humid air is cooling/ condensating causing moisture issues in your walls.

As shamous said, need to find the source of the cold air coming in. The mould would be reason to get the landlords ass in there to have it fixed.

As a landlord myself. Let the land lord know asap he may not even know there's a prob any one with mold in there building should want it out ASAP. Then there's the bad ones that just don't care. Not sure which you have. But sounds like a pretty easy fix

I have mold under my kitchen sink from a small leak (shut off valve) , my landlord idea of fixing is to cut a hole in the floor of the cabinet and wrap a sock around the pipe..
I have mold but, he doesn't seem to think that its an issue and the sad part is there is no recourse to get it removed or fixed.. contacted the health board and our building standards dept, NOTHING...

its just water. and only in that room....soo weird

It's a vapour barrier and insulation issue if its only in a closet along an outside wall. Let your landlord know about it if he doesn't fix it within a month there's action you can take and you don't have to pay rent till it's fixed. Condensation like that can create a massive mold issue very fast if not taken care of. If owner says it's ok pay a contractor to look at it and give in writing what is happening and needs to be corrected.

I would run a dehumidifier or you can get mold problems. Yes it will increase evaporation a little in you tank but that is better then mold.
