BRS is bringing in the new Vertex Omega 130 which sells for $320 but because of black Friday will be dropping the price by $120, this is fine for a 100 gallon but I'm looking at setting up a 120 with sump. Well it just so happens that when they get 2500 likes on FB they will also be dropping the Vertex Omega 150 by $120 also. So my question is anyone have any experience with the 150 or maybe some input? This is still very early in my build (don't even have a tank yet :() but would be nice to grab some deals next Friday.

If I'm not mistaken the 150 is the Reef Octupus Diablo 150, That is rated for a 125 GL tank, It also has the DC Pump that has a Controller, 6 speeds with soft start and a Feed mode, That's the one you want, Or atleast the one I want any way.

Dang another skimmer to look at :) Does a controllable pump really matter on a skimmer or is this more of their new gimmicky thing? I honestly have no experience with in sump skimmers so...
And secondly I think I would need to step up to the DCS170 since it will be a 120 with prob a 40 breeder sump (30 gallons then?) and from what I'v read you want to try and get a bigger skimmer than rated generally.

There are lots of skimmers on the market in the 200 to 400 range, They are affordable at that price. I like the DC pump skimmers because when my power goes out or I feed, I have to unplug my skimmer or it over flows when everything starts up again. Same as the return pumps. I think they are the future. And yes you want a skimmer rated for more than your volume, My tank is 70 GL with a 30 GL sump and I would purchase one rated for 125 to 150 GL

Having control is nice when you are feeding or doing other things, so you don't necessarily have to reach behind where the plugs are to shut off the skimmer entirely. If the control box is located in a more accessible location. It is handy but 100% not necessary. But all manufacturers are pushing the envelope to differentiate their products right? IMO, it is just one more part to go wrong.

Yes, who wants to get down and un plug your skimmer or return pump when you can just touch the feed mode button on the pad, If you had your power heads set up that way it's just a matter of pushing a few buttons rather than shutting off the power bar. It's also good for slow starts. My Skimmer is famous for going Wacky after the Power fails. If you are in the market for a new skimmer, then why not look into the DC pumps
