Have to travel to mississauga for a day next week and will be hitting sealife in London on the way home. However while in mississauga is there anywhere you recommend I should go and see?
Looking for sps corals. (don't want to blow the bank) want to make sure my tank will support the less costly stuff before moving up in the ranks to more expensive corals. Where do you recommend I go? .

+1 to Canada Corals having one of the best selections of sps frags.

My recommendation would be to get some proven sps frags from some local reefers. You will save some cash and increase your rate for success. Look for various birdsnest, green slimer/stag, red digi, monti cap - you can't go wrong with captive grown proven winners that have been passed around for many years.

I couldn't agree more with teebone. Being very new to SW that's what I have done and the local reefers have been very helpful with any and all of my questions.

That said, I always go to the LFS to check them out to see what's out there, plus I usually pick up accessories while there :)

I agree as well. But it's crap pickings locally in the city nothing to choose from here.

Wild pieces are just increasing the risk factor no?

Proven home aquaria pieces that are known to grow well in peoples tanks are probably the way to start off with SPS. Reef Hero, Salty Cracker, Big Show, are three SPS guys in the area that have had great success in their display tanks. I'm not saying CC is bad their selection looks enormous, but a wild SPS piece is exactly that. Wild. They are hit or miss on how well it will do in home aquaria.

but hey, I didn't listen to a single word that other told me when I was starting up either and I wouldn't blame ya if you didn't either.

Agreed. 90% of what I have has come from guys locally and has done very well.
So if anyone in the area has sps let me know I'll be around London on the 15th. Pm me if you like.

Wild acropora are known to be more difficult but we bring them in for the hardcore SPS enthusiast. You really can't get anything unique unless its wild. The cultured SPS are usually always the same species.

cc can be pricey but they do have newer cut frags for a little cheaper and their colony prices are very good for the colour and form you get not to mention they have every colour of the rainbow across the tank and some of everything definately worth the stop if only for a look..... if you ever travel past cambridge i have a fuzzy green and a yellow with pink polyp birdsnest that are both large colonies could easily cut you a decent frag of both to try if you would like free of cost since i need to trim again anyway
