I doubt it was because you have to many fish. The fish was probably not a 100% when purchased and just couldn't handle the acclimation. It happens.

I agree.  I wish someone else would throw in 2 cents.  Are we both crazy? :)

Nope your not crazy, overstocking will probably lead to aggression in the tank, I bet u just got a fish that wasn't 100%

Ok great, thats two confirmations that I am not crazy lol. I was really concerned that I had gone too crazy with my fish list and now I will have to go through the hassle of catching and selling a bunch of them which is no easy task!!!

Have you seen how many fish are packed into stores 10-20 gallon tanks? You are in no way over stocked. They also wouldn't die so soon if that was the case, unless he was attacked by the aggression issues mentioned.

Thats what I thought, as surely my other fish would be showing signs of aggression or would be looking ill if I were overstocked...

Thanks for the replies everyone, I am very pleased that I wont need to do anything crazy like sell some of my fish lol!

Highly doubtful overstocking, I have had 20+ fish in a 40 breeder before packed with corals when I had a tank crack, was like this for weeks with no losses.

The only way overstocking would cause a sudden death of a new acquisition, would be long term overstocking causing poor water quality that a new fish could not adapt to.

Add another confirmation.

I always consider the first month a gamble no matter how few fish I 've lost.
