Thinking about removing everything but SPS from my tank

So my tank is coming along and I find myself running out of room on where to place things. I have collected pretty much everything along the way, but I find myself wanting to concentrating mainly on SPS.

I feel like perhaps removing everything but the SPS might help my tank in the long run. The mix that is in there now is pretty erratic as I didn't have the focus at the beginning as I do now on a specific coral type.

What is the best thing to do with corals that are unwanted? Trade? Trade-in? Sell?

I have some rics, anemones, shrooms, dendros, zoos, and some others that don't sit well with me now.

Advise.

It's easier if you go all sps IMHO, although zoos can be nice and in my experience just grow around sps without killing them...

post em up and sell em.

Just remember, all that sps starts to grow at some point too, so dont pack smaller pieces/colonies too close, sometimes they go to war when they discover each other...

I have four different sets.

The only ones I know for sure are the Alpha and Omega Zoo's that Jerry sold me a few months back,

THe others I have no clue what they are called.

oh dear, that is my biggest fear. I don't have the ability to take very good pics with my cell phone. You are welcome to come by and view them if you want.

It would be much easier.

Hear me now, believe me later.... Do it!

If you want a long-term successful sps tank, take out anything that is a softie as they will eventually touch your prized spa colony and kill it overnight. Don't ask me how I know ::) I was warned, but thought I could get away with a full blown mixed tank, but am trying to manage the growth as everything is now growing into eachother. lol :)

You're asian!!!  Of course you have the ability to take awesome pics!!  Hell you could probably take good pics with silly putty.  Dig down for that innate ability!  Pfft, can't take good pics....next you'll tell me you can't recite pi to 40 decimal places.  ::)

Catching the sps bug eh...  ;D

Making the jump to straight SPS is doable... but definitely start frequenting the SPS forum on reef central and get yourself well versed in the language.  If you are serious about it, I would definitely get some dosers going with 2-part.  Over time, you will want stable tank parameters, and dosing calcium and alkalinity proportionately will increase your chances of success.  I think you said you have a wavemaker on the way, so sounds like you'll be all set in the flow department.  In terms of lighting, I think you said you are all LED - to me, this is the biggest grey area of your tank moving to all SPS - not that many have made the jump to straight LED lighting for SPS tanks just yet, but some have and are having success.  However, I don't know if I would consider straight LED lighting for someone just starting out with all sps... I would look into the LED lighting and how to get the most out of your unit for SPS, again a lot of info on RC.  Also, I'd look at getting a decent nitrate and phosphate test kit, probably hanna checker for phosphate, and make sure your skimmer is up to snuff.  Also read up on carbon dosing - your going to want to consider how best to keep your nutrients in check.

Oh, and crappy cell phone pics are better than no pics at all!

I'm one of the guys having luck with 100% LED (even Darryl was surprised when he finally saw the setup), but there's definitely a learning curve.  If money is no object go with conventional lighting and just stick to a solid bulb changing schedule (something I was no good at).

Saltys tank was doing great on LED the last time I seen it. Which reminds me, you still want that PM, glen?

Personally, I am all t5 and it seems to work for me well in my mixed reef....perhaps a little bit too much par at times for some lps but my sps come first! :)

I have a dosing unit. I have the Kamoer 3 channel doser. I bought it when Royal was going out of biz. I also scored three 5L bubble magus containers from Ben. I like spending money on useless shit. ha ha ha.

If anyone wants too see my corals send me a pm and we can meet up. I might even make a proper for sale thread if this gets any traction.

Did you get the doser setup yet with those containers?
