So i want to start off by saying i really hate these glass thermometers. First one shattered in my fingers when i first started in the hobby and now this bull.. so, does anyone know if the little black balls that are in the bottom of the thermometer are harmfull?? I went to drop my theremometer in and of course it bottomed out abs released those black grains and some glass..so do i dump all the water and start over again? Or will it be ok? Thanks.

Radioactive. You have to evacuate your house, call the bomb squad. Run away. Run far far away.

Riley I have one of the battery operated thermometer with probe in the tank and the display mounts on the outside of the tank, I've had it for 3 years and it works great. I was under 20 bucks !

You'll be fine, If it broke in the system then I'd worry. Like Mark said. Lead Or Stainless but most are Lead. That wouldn't be good
