Anybody know at what size, in general,  tanks are built using non-tempered glass?  Reason i ask is because i didn't plan on using a sump when i built my stand, and can't fit anything wider than 24" through the doors!  My thinking is to use two 20-25g tanks connected by as big a pipe as they make bulkheads for.  Am i making sense?  Suggestions welcome!

I know 55's are usually tempered back and bottom and most tanks are tempered on the bottom above that range. My 75 is only tempered on the bottom. I have 2x 20 gallon tanks from petsmart too and theyre not tempered at all...

Hadn't considered two types of glass used for one tank.  Way to go and complicate things further! :)

If I buy a new tank and I want to drill it I jus shoot the manufacturer an emeiL prior to purchase just to be safe. Otherwise a pair of polarized glasses does the trick for checking. Never tried it though.

There's all kinds of tanks the size i need for dirt cheap on kijiji.  Heard of checking using polarized glasses... Don't have a pair of those!

ok, I'm confused, what does the glasses have to do with telling if the glass is tempered and what should I be looking for. I have a 90 gal Hagen tank and have no idea if its tempered.
Wish there was an easier way to find out, looked at Hagen's site and it didn't tell me anything.
