I just hooked up my Temp Probe on the Reef Keeper and I've noticed that my Temp rises from 76-80  through out the day, The heater doesn't come on so it's the lights. Is this normal?

Ya, lights, pumps and the fact your house is probably warmer thru the day, 4 degrees is a pretty big swing though, is there a heat register close to the tank.

Yeah your tank shouldn't move that much in temp.  Use the reef keeper to control a heater to keep the temp as close to 80 as possible.

since i went DC pumps my temp has been a stable 77 degrees,i want to get heaters that have a controller as i dont have an apex.

I only keep it around 80 because in the summer it can pop up to 84 on really toasty days and I think going from 77 or 76 to 84 would just slaughter the tank.

Ironically, even with the apex...I have 3 haters in the sump, \"just in case\".  Well genius that I am, I plugged them all into the same power module, which went down because I had a bit of a flood trying to get a fish out of the overflow...anyway, it went down and damn if the internet module didn't crap out at the same time (could have been from the flood too), so it didn't email me to say that the tank was 75 deg.  I bleached out some monti but fortunately didn't have any other losses.  Just shows what a temp swing can do though.  In fact I only noticed something was wrong because the monti was pure white lol.

Interesting...I wonder if I have a much harder time with monti's than anything else because I keep my tank relatively cool.  Anyone else have a cooler tank and good montis??

I like to keep the temp. at 77 not 80 or more.

Depending what your ATO setup is like, you can program a fan to blown on your sump/across your tank when the temperature hits say 79.
I say depending on your ATO situation, because it will cause a greater rate of evap so you would need to be replacing more water.

My tank in the basement  has always benn in the 75-76 range. I run two jager 250 w heaters in the sump one set to 76 and the other I set so when the main one comes on I turn the dial on the seconds slightly so it just turns off the on light. Lol it is so cool and comfortable in the basement in the summer I see the heaters working in July to keep the temp range 76

I'll bet if more guys had a temp display that they would see a bigger fluctuation in temp. No heat source close to the tank and it's pretty cool here, Also my ATO is in a 20 GL tank directly beside the display in a cabinet, I can't see it being warm. I probably evaporate 3 GL a day
