Stuff dies other thrives

My blue pulsating xenia has all died and melted away after a massive amount of growth. 
Waving hand xenia is doing fine nuke green candy cane mostly gone. Plain old candy cane doing fine and growing.
Don't get it. Hairy mushrooms growing like crazy. 
Gsp crazy. Mushrooms going really good. Clam doing great.
It's weird but it seems like everything has its crazy fast growing periods and others are slow or melt away. Kenya tree melted away and others grow.
Anyone else have issues with softies like this? 
I've heard of xenia growing and melting but it's odd to me that similar species do well then melt.

xenia likes dirtier water, maybe your water is too clean? Using carbon or gfo?

Nope neither one. I'm not really concerned simply because others are doing well and the xenia can get way too big too fast anyway so maybe this is a blessing in disguise. 
But my cane cane the nuke died and the other is fine and growing.  That's what's confusing.
Same height in tank same food etc.

Have you changed anything in the past few weeks? Lighting, flow, maintenance schedule or procedure? Are the water parameters OK or at least the same as before?

Nope nothings changed. I don't screw around with the tank now that it's set up and running on its own.
Just do water changes every couple weeks or so.
