Yes.  Success with lps will lead to sps.    Don't buy any damn leathers though.  Just say no.

Cut way back on gfo use too.  lps can take a lot dirtier tank.  The idea will be to get everything established, then cut the phosphates back, and introduce sps as parameters improve.  That's how I did it anyway

i dunno if a elegance is bad. ..but i got one and it withered away.  and almost everything in tank looked bad.    but  i pulled it out. and did waterchange.  now my nice gold coral is withering ...does the elegance spew toxins when dieing

Yep.  They can go toxic when they die.  Make sure you keep running carbon and do waterchanges.

Google Terpenoids, that's the toxin they give off when they die.  It doesn't seem to affect other lps too much (although I had a leather die and take out a huge colony of candy cane once).  Just best to stay away from leathers altogether.  Generally not too attractive, they're aggressive growers and yeah, taking out a tank when it goes is sort of the trifecta of evil in my book

I got quite a few lps doing well in my tank and i run very low nutrients..... i have to feed all my corals because of this....i hand feed the lps, chalice, zoos and then broadcast feed my sps with very fine micron size food. I just cannot get over how long and many sweepers can come off corals....its amazing really and man they must be hungry lol
So tony make sure you feed ur lps and i would still strive for a clean and lower nutrient tank that can handle sps even wirh these other ones u hate haha....u should be able to feed things like duncans, torches, candy canes, chalice, and others with large mouths and see them actually eat....zoos and others are harder to observe eating but will....this is a good sign and just keep feeding them every 2-3 days as well as ur fish and watch ur params and keep the tank rather clean still....ur on ur way now!

Keep on going Tony things eventually will stabilize and you'll have your dream SPS system one day. +1 to no leathers! Yuk! Zoas/LPS/Acans and chalices are cool!

Why not Leathers? Cause they suck. Ok some Yellow Mini Toad stools or the Krypto Grn Toad stool only cause they are slow growers but all the others. NO way, They multiply tooooo fast and they take over a tank quite fast. Hey Man wait a show off and get a Primo LPS.
