what is your guys opinion on this?

i think its a neat idea, but how would you limit the light, etc, and what would you do on sunny days?

just looking to get a good discussion going on this!

What does the ocean do to limit light....nothing. even on cloudy days...rays still get through. It is a great idea. This build has PC actinics to help the corals pop

True, but the ocean also has billions and billions of gallons of water,  our 10-500g mean absolutely nothing in comparison.

theres also a reason we dont have coral reefs up here in canada, the sun here is not intense enough to grow coral, almost every solar tube tank on reef central has scrapped the tubes after only a short time.

Haha, wow I never thought about that lol, kind of an important factor lol,
I guess if I ever moved to the Caribbean I would be able to use one,
I also may as well just plumb a massive tank right into the ocean so I don't need to do any work haha.

Duke is right....we dont get enough sun up here.  Well at least if you want any SPS that is for sure.

There is a green house in Ohio.  Tidalgardens.  Soooo cool really.  He still uses light systems on a lot of the tanks though.

Check out his youtube channel and website
