I did learn one thing, I was wrong about bulkheads. Both sch40 and sch80 are both made from PVC, not ABS.

If you want to know more about ABS vs PVC, I know Bigshow Frags line of sumps and equipment use ABS. I am sure Darren or Dave would be happy to advise or at least provide some guidance on suggestions. @BIGSHOW They have a killer line up from what I saw at the Niagara Coral Show last year. Very sexy equipment and most likely looking that way when/if I go big again when my life gets back in order.

Check this out though

My point is that some stores will sell anything, and I don't think there's any kind of regulation on fish plumbing (although I'm sure the city will sell you a permit to install fish plumbing if you ask), so it's kind of "meh, whatever". The company that sells prescription diet to pets through vets has been guilty of killing a ton of pets through melamine poisoning, and it happens over and over. They don't give a shit they just want the sweet $$$

(latest recall in Jan 2019, yep they love your pet)

If nothing else this thread created some chatter on The Frag Tank. Which I hope to see more of with other threads as well. Been quiet here for a while.

The point is being missed here! I'm not debating if ABS is good or bad for the tanks! My point is in one place they say it's ok, in another place they say it's bad. I could care less if it is good or bad. My point is, it's either good or it's bad but CAN'T be both. It's confusing!
Your point isn’t being mistaken. I’m giving you evidence that there is nothing to fear from having abs in your system. If you are scared to use it pay more and use pvc. That is always an option, and stay away from abs products. There is more than 1 successfull reef tank using abs.

I actually have the data on most plastics. It's what I do for a living. I work in a plastics factory so it's my job to know what the characteristics of plastics. The ones that we use and even the ones we don't use so we can advise clients on the different plastics out there and why use one versus the other. From the scientific aspect of ABS there is nothing wrong with it and is used in many reef and fresh water tanks. There are some "myths" about it but there are "myths" throughout this entire hobby. To debate the "myths" is like trying to push a rope. I just like to get people thinking about things that come up that don't make much sense to me, like how can it be good in one place but not the other :D
