Ro/di Unit

Hello there,

I just purchased a ro/di vertex 100gpd puratek basic just has a water pressure gauge. Instructions were minimal so i was wondering what is the optimal psi to run this unit and should there be any noise at all when the unit is running? Also is I find if I let the flow restriction out fully the psi is less than 10 but but if I turn the black nob a bit the noise starts but the psi jumps to 40-60psi. I know the instructions said that minimal psi is 40. It seems to have more waste then product if I dont tweak the restriction but theres a noise from the membrane area..

any input would be greatly appreciated and should i be testing my tds right away since the unit is brand new? is there a shop around London that sells tds meters?

An ro/di unit usually rejects 85 to 90 % in my experience should be no noise from membrane and 40 is optimal any higher and it pushes impurities though membrane. in my experience a tds meter is not necessary.just change membrane when clean output is reduced and sediment and carbon when dirty

Tds meters are cheap, and the only way to be sure your unit is producing pure water. Should be available from anywhere that sells ro/di units or supplies.

Oh ok, thanks for the fast replies.
So should I be using the flow restriction nob near the membrane to adjust the psi? it seems if I turned my facet flow up doesnt do anything to the psi. only the flow restriction. is this supposed to be like this? and there is a noise coming from the membrane.. at 40 psi seems to take a long time to fill a 5g bucket.

My unit doesnt have a digital meter. just a psi gauge for water. and ya mine does a 5g bucket little over a hour a half or so. I just thought theres a lot of waste water and only a little product.

Nothing to tweak in my opinion you open up the flow restrictor you get no ro/di water close the restrictor so its functioning like it should then you should get 60 pounds of pressure from your pump and the higher the pressure the less waste water there is

alright, thank you a lot.
the information is very helpful and yes the more i restrict the flow the higher the psi and there is more ro di water then waste water, its just when its running at 60psi sounds like there a humming noise. I suppose thats just the water passing through the membranes
