In case anyone cares reef builders has a led showdown with I think the top 25 led fixtures of 2012.  Kessil a350 is close to the final 2. Just tootin my horn lol. It's a great fixture guys.

If anyone runs led go to the site and see where your fixture finished!

I thought you initially weren't happy with the kessil?  Are they working out now? Curious, as I really dig the compact design, but have read definitely mixed reviews of them.

Well at first I wasn't sure bc without a par meter I'm unable to know what my readings are other than what people post on the net. When I switched from mh to led I lost my giant blue cap ( went white then brown)  I know water quality is a huge factor in hard coral so I can't solely blame my LEDs. Over time I've ramped up the light output. I currently run 50% white 75% blue. I have amazing growth with lps soft and zoanthids. I've yet to attempt sps bc I'm afraid of losing it. Overall I'm satisfied with them. If I could rechoose I would go with a350 vs a350w. I think that could sustain sps.

Simply put, I love the compact design. They run cool. Ultra silent. Fully adjustable light output/colour. And great growth.

I noticed the Radion isn't listed in there at all, And the Kessil is more of a pendant isn't it, it's like comparing apples to oranges anyway

they are disgruntled because ecotech wouldnt give them a free one to test.. lol

its a great site, but i have yet to see them dis a product that they were given for evaluation purposes.. seems the only ones that get neg feedback were freebies.

So it's a bit biased then, don't you think

i dont know if i'd go to that extent fully.. but its pretty surprising the #1 led fixture isnt included right? i do love the site, i have it in my rss feeds on my cell phone and browse it daily, its neat to see all the rare fish coral and new hardware.. but like everything else.. your best place for reviews will be from actual users of products and not a website geared to make money(like reefbuilders)

I like the site for seeing new products and fish. But regardless the ecotechs isn't listed or not, it's not reef builders deciding who wins. The public votes.

Yes the kessil is a pendant more than a fixture. That's why I bought it. It's smaller, more compact and cheaper than a 900$ ecotech (which I actually don't like). I would have needed 3 of them. The kessil has uv built in along with various blue and whites. Only thing I think they could improve on is having the lights dimmable by a controller.

Anyway, this thread wasn't made as a debate. Just wanted everyone to be able to see where their fixtures ranked based on public votes.

Cheers

ya sorry i wasnt trying to knock their site.. i love it, myself, and to be honest i didnt even read the showdown.. so if users voted then maybe everyone thinks the ecotechs suck.. who knows.. personally i think 95% of LED failures can be chalked up to user error myself. im using a simple blue/white and 3 UV's and im getting good color and growth out of SPS. iirc you had a bridgelux led build going at one point, what happened?

900$ would be a bit steep.. they are 499 new now for the gen 2 ecotechs and they pop up online for 400-450 all the time now.
