Question On Probes

After shutting down my 75g I plan on setting up the Neptune controller on my RedSea but not for a month or two. Wondering what is the best way to store your probes? I don't have the rubber caps for them anymore. And how often does everyone change them?? I was told once a year but I haven't changed them in almost 2 and was hoping that once a year is crazy talk.

Any input would be apricated.

Id just leave it in some tank water on a bottle or something and it should be fine

I normally would hussy keep them in a cup of tank water, bit I have never done that long. Plastic baggies and elastics for each probe should work as well. Store in a cool dark space and should be golden.
