Purple Haddoni

Is that common? rare? how rare?

  do u have pictures? U see many more purple gigs than Haddonis. Either way a purple carpet would be nice.

I was TOLD it was a haddoni, and I WISHED it was a haddoni even though I knew it wasn't. it's more likely a gig as you said Duke. I got it in a 30G right now in a basket with a nemo. It may go into a new nemo and nem dedicated tank.    (voice in my head says... ur crazy!!!)

It's a gig.. And a nice one at that.. Hopefully you can get it to acclimate well, did u look into treating it with Cipro?

Personally I'd be happier with a Gig over the Haddonis. Sweet score, some clown fish is going to be happy very soon

Looks like a purple sebae to me. (Heteractis crispa) Just going by the verrucae on the base, who knows hard to tell without seeing it in person.  ???

Yup, both are carpets, above is a true carpet anemone s. Gigantea, The dead give away is the dots on the underside, s. Haddonis will not have this, the tentacle length is another indicator, Haddonis will never have tentacles that long.

Ya take what I say with a grain of salt.. I'm only going off what I've read online and have no personal experience with either carpet species.

Post those photos on reef central in the anemone and clown section and you'll have your answer on what it is for sure pretty quickly.

I offered it a marine pellet as a test and it ate it up! that's a really good sign so I'm psyched.

yeah I've seen sebae anemones and this isn't one.  It's got that wavy cuplike shape like haddonis but the tentacles aren't round like haddonis. I'll post on RC. maybe I'll try take better pictures with a real camera.

I'm leaning towards it being a crispa not due to the verrucae which the gigantea also has in similar manner, but based on the shape and form of the tentacles. gigantea tentacles seem to always be straight whereas crispa with thin short tentacles seem to have curls to them like mine. Now here's the other thing that bothers me about crispa - most have long fat tentacles, some have long thin tentacles, and seems, only a few have short thin tentacles like mine. Perhaps there might be subspecies.
