Purple growth

Any idea what this is. It lays on the gravel substrate. Seems to go smaller when lights are out. If I vacuum the gravel it goes mostly away for a bit and slowly comes back over the weeks. I don’t tho it’s cyano. I used a whole bottle of the treatment and didn’t effect it. And it’s jus ton the gravel. I remember cyano being red. I odviouly might be wrong Do you have a treatment for cyano

I used chemiclean didn’t change it at all.

Dinoflagellates maybe, they enjoy the sand bed, are photosynthetic and thrive in low nutrient conditions.

I think it’s dinos. I have seen the snot balls in my sump before but not in my tank. But I think that’s what it is. Will start trying to fight it back

I vacuum my gravel weekly as part of my water change now and have been dino free for almost a year.

I will try the uv and bumping the temp first. It’s not really effecting anything right now.

I’m not really sure that’s what it is so will keep an eye on it.

If you can get access to a microscope you can get a positive ID

If you are in London sometime soon bring some by and ill put it on the scope if you want, i agree that i think its dinos. Lots of positive experiences raising temperature. You will have to keep the tank there though, most of the people who solved their issue had to maintain the high temp permanently. I used hydrogen peroxide to get rid of mine but they will come right back unless you fix the low nutrient issues.

I havent the slightest clue what it is. If its that brownish substance in the 3rd photo its much smaller than dinos. The flakes were snail eggs

Did you find any of the purple stuff in the sample I gave you?

I couldnt get a photo of it at all but when you shine UV light in a pitch black room on them they do glow a purple color a little bit on the centre of the "flakes" which when i looked at them were snail eggs. Do i 100% think thats a correct ID.... Nope. I wish i could help more but you would almost have to be able to take a UV camera shot to see what you mean. Its kind of hard to explain i can see why are you are having a hard time with an ID. If you didnt say that it was easy to blow off i would think its coraline just based off visually looking at it.
