I'm looking to buy a skimmer but choices are too many. Would like one rated for 300g internal and $350-500. Personal experience preferred also to stick to name brand. looking to purchase real soon new or used. thanks in advance for help

I'll throw out the bubble blaster powered super reef octo Xp line.

I have the xp2000. 3 year warranty on the pump is best in the biz I believe. Maybe not the most quiet skimmer out there but definitely a good quality very well backed piece of equipment.

I had an impeller go bad and swell up. I called coralvue and they sent me not just a new impeller but a complete pump in case their was any damage to the inside of the block.

Xp3000 would be better for 300 gallon. Just a bigger version of mine:)

Xp3000 internal and external are both being sold as "while quantities last" so I think you will see something taking it's place shortly.

The prime and elite reef octopus are probably the lines that are replacing this one. DC pumps seems to be the way they are going

My experience with Reef Octopus has been that they have noisy pumps, even a hum is noisy to me on the other hand the Vertex Omega line is dead quiet but just didn't pull the crap out, I'm using an older, much older Das skimmer now, It's dead quiet but the cup is so small that it needs to be emptied every day. Looks like I will be upgrading to a SWC 160 and pray that it's quiet and efficient. I've owned so many skimmers, it's just another in a long line of hope full skimmers.

Jewel with you experience have you ever looked at or tried lifereef equipment? I know lots of guys say old technology. But if it works, it works. I haven't got one, still using the marineland 300, works but I'm sure there's better. I am personally going to look at getting a lifereef before the end of the year

I had a Lifereef Calcium Reactor a few years back and found their quality very good, The marineland 300 isn't a bad skimmer at all, I've had one. They are comparable to a Coralife. There are a lot of skimmers on the market
