Re: My 150g

doing great so far, diatoms are finally receeding, though I still get a small dusting every day.

I also added a few more things:

Reef Keeper Elite, w Net module and 3 pc4's

large hurricane chalice,
alien eye chalice frag
red blasto frag

Green torch, 6 heads or so, all starting to split.

I plan on adding a dosing system, (not sure, possibly brs) and a new skimmer
sometime in the near future

Re: My 150g

So i finally got a good quality test kit: a Red Sea, Ca, Mg, and Alk Test kit from BRS.

Here are my number
Red sea

Calcium- 390
Mg- 1380

My Hanna Checkers Read
dkh- 6.4
Po4- 0.06

API
Ammonia- 0
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- >10

Im a bit worried about my DKH, any specific reasons why it would be that low?

I'm using IO,
My plan is to order the brs pumps and 2 part, but I wanted to make sure I need it.

I'm due for a wc next week Tuesday so these tests are near the end of the 2 weeks.

Ya depending on the size or water changes your alk should be level if you were to do one today. I can't see the water change changing the Calcuim level because IO cal level is 380 when mixed so you will have to start dosing for Calcuim as soon as you can.

So my calcium would  have been 380 at my last water change an it has dropped since then?

Does that mean my corals aren't using up any calcium ?

Ya I'm not sure you would of ever had a Calcuim reading higher then 380 ish if you have never dosed Calcuim before. Give or take a few ppm
Mix up some fresh salt and test the Calcuim and alk level in it, then you will know how much is being replenished roughly when you do your water change.

How many corals in the tank and which types ?

I've got mainly lps but several sps as well

Torch , hammer, frogspawn , brain, chalice, green and red monti, red milli, and a few other small sps frags.

All with good growth actually.

I'm not sure then, I know that with just replenishing with water changes won't suffice if your have sps and Lps. What do you normally keep your Calcuim at ?

to be 100% honest with you ive never tested calcium before with anything other than an api test kit which doesnt even count lol...

im going to start dosing soon, but i guess my lps and sps are surviving and growing off of 380 ca and 40g water changes ever other week..

i wont add anything else until i start dosing
