Plumbing Canister Filter To Bulkheads

Bought a 90g with two 1” bulkheads installed on the back, upper left and right. Initially, I figured I could plumb my canister filter to them and eliminate the over rim assemblies. Not so fast! The hoses on my filter are 5/8”. Is there a reasonable way to connect 5/8” hose to a 1” bulkhead? There is no adaptor or even a reducer that I can find that will work. To you master tank plumbers out there, how would you do it? Where can I buy what I need?

We've done this to a few clients tanks in the past.
All you need is a 1" either slip of threaded fitting(depending on the bulkhead you have) to a 5/8 hose barb fitting.
You may not find it online. But go to a good local plumbing store and they will have what you need

Check out Rona in the sprinkler section I had a similar issue and Rona was the only store that had what I needed

I have searched a dozen sites (plumbing, irrigation, industrial supply, etc) and can find no suitable fittings. The problem is 5/8”. Just not a widely used size I guess. So time to abandon the existing bulkheads. I have two ideas:

1. Buy plugs for the bulkheads, drill two more holes.

2. Remove bulkheads, silicone glass squares from an old tank over hole, redrill for smaller bulkheads.

Anyone see a problem with either plan?

I did find these, which should be perfect.

My head was starting to hurt trying to figure it all out. Went ahead and ordered new bulkheads and drill bit.

Well I’ll be damned! 1/2” bulkhead fits rights through the 1” with enough flange surface to glue them together.

Anyone need a brand new 30mm diamond bit?
