What are you hoping to do with it?

People use it for turf scrubbers, and screens for pump in takes etc. I don't know of anyone having problems as a result

i use it, the same piece of it for 2 years actually and its good, it doesn't break down or cause any issues. its polyethylene plastic im pretty sure

I would guess pet,  petg,  or pp..  All safe

I've use egg crate to make baskets for my macro in my fuge.  Works well.  You can see it in my build thread.  Link is in my sig

I have egg crate in my refugium as well, but always bits of chaeto go through and end up collected at power head or irritating some corals. With a finer mesh, I hope chaeto will stay contained. Worried little bit about the flow.

I believe its Polystyrene, PET is used as a raw material as well as Glycol,TDI,Ethyl,styrene, Styrene as a liquid and by it's self is a known Carsen-generatic Once binded in to the process is perfectly safe as a plastic.

Yeah.. Could be polystyrene or hips..  Common in molding consumer goods
