If I had 2 grand, and your current wants....

Vertex Omega 150 - $400
MP-40 x2 - $1000
Kamoer 3 channel pump - $300
BRS 5 stage Plus RO/DI - $200  (what do you currently have BTW?  for less money you could probably just add an additional and a couple more canisters)

Take into account shipping and taxes and you should be around budget, maybe a tad over.  Planning out shopping lists is fun isn't it?! :D

+ 1 to everything except the mp40's, waste of money imo, get two wp25's and your set.

and you can prob find a vertex on kijiji for cheaper :)

250 -vertex 150
300 - doser
175- 2 wp25's
sea swirls are 150-175$, nice units i really like mine.
and ya BRS rodi prob best way to go.

and then you still have lots of $$ left over for corals and fish :D

I don't know why but I've always lusted for the MP's.  The WP pumps do a great job too but they are fairly "directional" when compared with the wide flow of an MP.  OR so I gather... not having any direct experience with an MP.

mp 40's are sick.

I don't give a shit what people say about them. Their profile in the tank is sexy and non intrusive. My pair is quiet as a mouse and they work great with one another in mode that I have them set up in.

There are cheaper options that do a great job as well, but I undoubtedly do not think it is mere coincidence that they named their model's so similarly to the Vortechs.....

Vertex Omega is a nice unit. I would go for the Vertex Puratek RO/DI unit. It has everything included with the unit and an awesome 1:1 good water to waste water production. As for powerheads, I wouldn't go MP40's... Not in a 70G. That is WAY overkill and too much money IMO. I am a Tunze fan but even then, I think 2 - WP25's would be perfect. Just have them mounted off the back wall, in the corners, facing near the middle of the front glass. That will give you lots of nice flow.

As for a doser, I am thinking a Kaomer or spend the extra $100 and get a GHL Doser. They are well built units but hear good things about the Kaomer as well. In total, thats probbably $1200 plus tax or so... For the return pump, get the Water Blaster or a Waveline. Both run exceptionally quiet. Water Blaster comes with 3 yr warranty but Waveine is controllable.... Mind you, controllable for a Return pump is a little redundant IMO. You generally want it to run wide open 24/7. Get a return pump large enough to run your reactors as well. Saves space, prevents excess heat, less hydro and less maintenance.

I agree with the Vertex Omega 150, A 3/4 Sea Swirl, Water Blaster 3000, 2x Tunze 6055,GHL Doser and a 5 stage BRS Ro/DI Unit, I'm gonna get a couple of 5 GL Pails of 2 Part from BRS and some Quality Salt, I'm sure there's gonna be some cash for a Fish/Coral Fund, Just wondering about a Skimmer that has a Controllable Pump with feed Mode etc. yes it is fun,

Is there any place out there that gives discounts for buying more. Who would you order from?

My current RO/DI unit is toast, I'll save the unit and run DI through them or something, My skimmer will be kept as a spare, The Doser will be nice for sure, The return I have now is just a Mag 3 good for mixing salt I guess, same with my current Power heads, I might go with the Oceans 2000 instead of the Sea Swirl. I won't be upgrading the tank or the lights. . What about a Controller? Are they worth it really, I mean how much can you control anyway?

Keep in mind that there is a WP40 out now as well as the 25 and 60. There is a WP10 that is due to be released around Christmas.

i find the 40's more than enough for my tank, i think it would be overkill for his,
25's are prob the cheapest and the best way to go

Love my Apex but I use it for a lot of different things. Timers for lights, dimmable options for DIY led actinics, email alerts if there is an issue, access to controller using my wifi, soft starts on pumps, safety back up on heaters, etc. Plus, I can do anything from my ipad which is pretty cool.

IMO, yea they are. You can control pretty much everything. The failsafes alone you can setup can save pumps, heaters and your tank for that matter.

It has saved my tank at least once in the past.  Email received about high temp.  Checked the heaters from 4 hours away, looked fine so I turned off the power heads in the tank remotely and watched re temp come down.  One of the power heads was cooking itself and heating the tank up.  Still had the return pump flow and I was on my way home do I had no issues turning off the power heads.

you can't go wrong with wp25's, i couldn't live without my controller now, i'm still on the fence about dc pumps (give them more time) but they are the future, love my BM doser, ATO is a must,.

definately look at used stuff here on canreef and even RC, i buy stuff on RC and get it shipped to the ferry, great deals to be had.

I will get a couple of the WP25s, just because of the low cost, I think I will get the Vertex RO/DI system. I want to get one with 2 RO Filters and the water Pump, It's a nice unit a bit pricey but one thing I've learned over the years is that this is a long term Hobby and You'll have what ever you purchase for a long time. I like the reef Octupus Diablo Skimmer with the Multi speed pump. Even just for feed modes and soft starts. I use a Gravity fed ATO but maybe I should look into some thing else. And i'll look at the Controller as well.  Any recommedations on a Controller.

I don't mind buying used from other sites but it just seems you gotta wait for what you want

as for a controller, if your tech savy, apex, if not, reefkeeper, don't know much about reef angel but it looks pricey and profilux is way pricey.
i think it is a waste to go with a "Lite" or "Jr" cause you will end up with the "Full"
