New Tank Help

I have an existing twin 15 gallon with a 30 gallon sump.
Shutting it down.
I have set up a 75 gallon with 30 gallon sump. Tank is 48x30x13(tall)
Using existing live rock.
I have purchased a purple tang and was thinking of putting him in this tank.
Would there be any issues with the new tank cycling, or should it be fine considering its old healthy live rock that the tank will have in it.

I have heard and been told that if you are using your existing live rock that new water is fine. I will be following this as I too am setting up a new tank. That question was on my list to ask when the time comes. I don't have room to have both tanks running.

You should be alright. But it depends on how much "old" live rock you have in the new system.

If it were me. I'd give it a week and test the new system before adding the tang. Even after adding the tang I'd be testing water regularly to ensure you don't experience a ammonia spike

Use All ur rock, water and get some seachems stability and it good to go. I just did the swap twice in two months actually and no problems. Adding extra bacteria to the tank will help nullify the cycle so to speak.

So much depends on the amount of old live rock you are transferring over and how much livestock you are immediately transferring as well. If the Purple Tang is the only livestock going in right away you will be fine as far as the cycle goes. Using the old substrate will make a huge difference as well, with both the substrate and live rock there should be no reason to add any bacteria supplement but of course it can't hurt and may give you piece of mind. Hopefully you have at least 30lbs of old live rock to add, some old aragonite and as much of the old water and you'll be good to go.

I was always under the impression once you stir up the substrate you are getting level extremely high, and are/should wash the sub out before reintroducing it anyplace

Added about 25 pounds of rock so far. Will add more later. Only two clowns and a cardinal in there for now.
Should be good.
I didn't use much of my old live rock, it was covered in softies and I didn't want any in the new tank.
