Hey, I am laying out a stand for a 7'x2.5' tank and I was wondering is there a way to get away from using a center leg. I would prefer to build with wood due to accessibility and expense. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

treat it like framing a door or window and double up on both ends and use a header beam.... should be able to get a nice 5' opening without worry structurally ;) just my 2 cents as a gc

i would think you could use 4 2x6s on edge like floor joists 1 at the back 1 mid and doubled up on front and support the back with a middle leg ..
to build something to hold that amount of weight for a very extended period of time, i would say you need to know what you are doing and engineer the hell out of it...,, picture parking a truck on it...
