I wanna start by saying i know angie and jim from 8.2 marine are on here as some name so if they have anything to add come forth  if they choose...it sucks having to resort to bashing to a point on a forum but this is why forums exist to express how ppl feel.  I respected them and what theve tried to accomplish threw the years but basic ignorance is the start to downfalls and the demise of ppl and business alike.  Im writing this out of frustration and in my opinion feel ive been had  by them especially when me and kyle have tried to help them with advice and such throughout the years...ill explain below. Some things are minor but others are a w.t.f..

Out of nowhere this friday they have a post on facebook saying there closing  this weekend no warning or anything. This is a busy weekend for ppl with easter and such. my problem with this is whats with ppls orders, store credits, considment items, and store credits that are owed to ppl not to mention they implemented a bonus points card a month ago like shoppers that when u buy stuff u get points that add up to aquire stuff and they charged eveyone 5 dollars to get a card.
.issue 1.. i went in and found that they knew they were going to be closing for months now why do a card and charge ppl other than to steal money from customers knowing ur closing.
Issue 2 ..i had 200 dollars store credit from items i traded in that was owed to me i talked to angie on facebook and basicslly got a run around that she sqrewed up and it was for another james i had gotten 60 dollars in brightwell stuff so i was owed 140  she tryed to say i got 80 but in fact i have the receipt that shows 60 and i have 140 left in credit on receipt wtf? I told her what i gave her and she couldnt remember everything which i can understand along with stuff at the store i would like back said i have a day to come get it...basicslly the message was i dont have store credit which is 100 percent bullshit...so just to bullshit her i said i had a seaclone i gave for store credit and she said they just sold it so she owes me 20 bucks...another b.s story cuz i didnt trade in a seaclone...basicslly told me that so i get some money cuz she knows she owes me 140 ....keep my 140 u owe me plus the 5 on the bullshit scam points card and keep my extra equipment i gave u as consignment u need it more oviously.

Another thing that bothers me is we tried to help to better the store and ur stubborn ness shows why it closed..horrible used equipment.tanks with garbage lighting u never even bought one quality light fixture or a ro/di system even thou i offered one 800gph for 50 bucks and instead used the water store that had a tds of 20 ppm all the time we offerd to build leds for u for free if u just bought the kit but instead would buy a used garbage fixture for more than what it was worth.

Only place in ontario that was a certified coral aquacultered place and never even could get or grow coral to that level because there was never any coral at the store  due to the lack of  decent equipment which boggles my mind not ever one sps could last longer than a week or any pieces of anything that  would maintain its colour.

Kyle was offerrd the store and everyghing  for 5 grand plus having to pay the rent. There was nothing but tanks and 5 super used light fixtures ..u didnt even run a skimmer in the store?

Basically i can go on and on due to the neglect and sheer stubborness its sad that its closed and ive let my frustration win but when u have been ripped off scammed on and lied to i want to let others know that what you see isnt always what u get. Like i said above keep what was owed to me i dont want the money or my stuff i just wish u guys would have been honest with me and others and i think that closing on easter weekend was planned because u knew ppl couldnt make it in to get what was owed  and its funny how the facebook page disapered so quick....wish u guys luck in the future

I never got to involved with that place. rubbed me the wrong way from day one. Bad husbandry combined with neglect will ultimately result in failure

Are you serious? That's a little much...
I too heard rumor of closing a couple months back but figured it was not true when they put out a reward program.

At least I'm only out 5$ not 100$+....

Well it's all about ethics and running a business. If you don't do it right to begin with and have the money / investors behind you you won't likely succeed.
I do find it frustrating that they were pushing the points card idea knowing they were going down the tubes. So I'm out some money there but that's it. I know many had other personal issues and that's not cool. But I was always happy with their service and support I always swung a cash deal when I could.
I also always seemed to get many items fresh off the delivery truck so they are all good in my tanks.  Only had 1 thing die and they replaced it at no charge.
This is just another business that tried and didn't succeed.  Going against stores like corbets and aqua as competition is hard for new stores.  Conflicting prices, information,  support. Rumors,  Etc.
But regardless you need that financial backing to do it.
I like to be friendly with lfs owners but business is business pleasure is pleasure.  I ensure I keep a fine line drawn.  Especially when it comes to my wallet. :))

From reading this, I really can't say more than If it's all true.. I'm glad they went under.
there is a very small market for fish stores to thrive, we may as well allow the legit, good quality ones to flourish and
the shitty ones who are out for nothing but a dollar to go down the tubes quickly, personally i've never shopped there
by the sounds of it I am really glad I haven't.

To be honest with you, I have no idea how anyone stays in business in this hobby.  I mean, with cheap chinese products flooding the market (bubble magus for example), cheap bulk additives, basement fraggers, etc etc etc I just can't imagine how there's any profit in it for anyone.  I guess it's the guys with on-the-side maintenance contracts that can last in an ultra-competitive market like that.  I have 3 ex-nhl buddies and they have told me some stories of some of the tanks some of these guys get in their cribs, and since they're on the road for months at a time, they just fork out $$$$ per month to have someone watch over their wives tanks for them.  So there you go, get on the nhl/nba/nfl/mlb bandwagon and get yourself a sweet cushy contract!

Hey, little kadri will probably need a tank soon, he keeps jabbing at the big bruisers in the nhl and sooner or later, someone's going to be giving him some time off to watch a tank. lol.

Re: moving topic

My opinion on this is if your not brining  high end corals into the country or buying off the guy who does than you probably won't last.

I can think of one place who brings in high end and sells to the basement fraggers because even they know themselves that's the best way to get their stock out of the store to bring in new stock.

Why as a store owner would you frag up a million pieces of one coral and sell it when joe schmo comes in and buys the whole colony and frags it himself to sell. Now store owners has more room for more stock.

As far as the OP I don't even know how they lasted so long to begin with. If people buy shitty coral/equipment from The shop then this is why they would stay open, I'm glad to see their closing after all the stuff I just read, if it's all true.  Dont support inexperienced / careless shops and they will never pop up.

Re: Re: moving topic

Honesty and good relations with your customers will go a long way IMO.....especially in the reefing hobby.....most ppl in this hobby will know or soon discover the truth or other side of things......just sayin.
Kinda BS tho on the part of marine 8.2 from what I have read in this thread.....
What will make a successful business in this hobby is working with your hobbyists and loyal customers....but then again I'm sure there are some hobbyists out there looking to screw the Lfs....rough game! Kadri ain't ready for this game yet.....another 3 years according to the leafs management lol
My two cents.....

Anyone hear that a store closed in Windsor?  What were the chances of that?  Total bullshit that they were giving out frequent flyer miles too.

ya its to bad we  cant get anthing half decent here ,wouldnt take much just some decent pieces even as far as the pieces we get from u guys on here be it a inch or two frags from 5 to 20 bucks as long as they look nice i dont mind paying its just sad that we are offered the  same double  price for way inferior coral that are already dying.wouldnt be hard for a store to purchase a colony and sell as pieces for that price but i guess that takes to much brainpower....i really did expect to hear some backlash from them or supporters but i guess there either above me or realized they stole ppls money..oh well talked to my brother who is a cop and he said what it sounds like  it actually counts as a theft undeer 5000 dollars and fraud , maybe just for the hell of it i should file in small claims ...not really worth the time and hasstle but principle has to count for something

If you are correct and your brother (the cop) says it counts as theft under $5000, then it isn't something that you would need to file in small claims.  He should just be able to lay charges.
If you pocketed $5 worth of fish food or something and they called the cops, you would just be charged.  Whats the difference.

a family member of mine ran a clothes store for years, she stopped selling gift cards 4 months before she even ANNOUNCED she was closing, then after the announcement she waited another 2 months to close. Giving anyone and everyone enough time to buy whatever stock she had left ( at huge discounts i might add) and use their cards etc...

its just common decency... and what they did to you just pisses me off reading it... lol

i doubt taking legal action would result in anything... small claims court is a joke
