Re: NEW PICS UPDATED JAN-7-2012- My 90G Pile of Rocks

Thanks Siderjan! Much appreciated.

Also, interesting fact is that I have been able to get my temperature down by about 1.5 degrees average by keeping my cabinet doors slightly open at night. My temp range has been fluctuating between 76 to 79. All my corals have been looking better.

Maybe a good tip for anyone who has there tank on a closed cabinet style stand.

Dave, I need to learn how to take some good pics. I grabbed 4 new frags from KK and they are doing great. Real estate is at a premium these days, so I am still looking for a place to mount these things ;D

We need to see some pics of your setup too ;)

Tank Update- My 90G Pile of Rocks

Well, since I have been keeping SPS over the last year, I have noticed decent growth, but the color has not been ideal.

I have addressed a few areas for improvement:

1. Flow - I have added 2 MP40s. This has had tremendous results in growth and polyp extention.

2. Bio-load - I have recently evicted a few regulars and added a number of new peaceful inhabitants. This had lead to increased feeding and fish poo which can be linked to improved sps color.

3. Sand bed - Over the years, I have had a sand bed, then went bare bottom, back and fourth, and now I am back to a sand bed :?... Carib Sea Special Grade. I added about 20 lbs to my existing tank.

4. Phyto is being added every few days

5. Switched type of carbon in reactor from ROX to Lignite, not suppose to be as potent

6. Changed my T5bulbs (Blue Plus X3, Coral Plus x2, Purple Plus x1)- Wow! What a difference.

To date, my colors have slightly improved.. Most noticeable is with my montipora digitita corals. The color is starting to become a little deeper in all types, especially the red digi.

With my recent changes, I am also getting a slight algae bloom on my live rock. I am expecting this to be temporary until my biological filtration stabilizes again. My plan is good husbandry and stepping up on water changes. I may even consider bio-pellets in the future, since I will be feeding more with an increased bio-load.

Re: Tank Update- My 90G Pile of Rocks

I came across this pic of my birdsnest frag on March 12, 2011, so it was taken about a year ago.
