Unfortunately, both my pearlscale butterfly and moorish idol perished without a trace yesterday. On top of that, my bluethroat trigger managed to get himself trapped between 2 rocks, so lost him as well. Everyone else seems fine. Have never lost so many fish at once. Won't be adding anything new for awhile!

My fish all eat well. They all know when the powerhead turns off, head to the front corner of tank! I feed nls pellets in morning, then again around 5, then 2 mysis cubes around 9. Weird thing is i can't find the butterfly or idol. They were both 3.5"-4", shouldn't be hard to find!

That is very strange, could they have jumped out? Or been eaten ?

No way they could have jumped out. Eggcrate covers the entire top, and is a real snug fit. I suppose they could have been eaten, but i don't know by who. Also seems unlikely since no one had snacked on the dead trigger.

I don't think its uncommon to have fish up and disappear. Maybe a bit strange that they are bigger though. I think a lot of fish when they are stressed or on their way out find a cave or other spot within the rockwork to hide and rest, and end up dying there never to be seen (but maybe smelt) again. I lost a few anthias over the years and only once did I find a body. Larger LPS or a larger anemones may also eat them. Either way its unfortunate, that is quite the haul to lose all at once.

i know if something dies in my tank my 2 mini conchs and dozen nassarius snails have it gone in a day or two even a 4" tang..... maybe you have a dredded bobbit worm lol

Found the butterfly carcass stuck underneath overflow box this morning. Was basically just skin, so at least someone made a meal of it. Still no sign of idol. Brandon?
