Looking at a few DIY options. Is 48 3W Bulbs sufficient for a 75 gallon?

i run 90 3w over a 90 gallon with the same dimensions, im sure less would be ok but more is better imo.

It also depends on what LED s and what you run them at. If you go for cree they say 48 will be perfect for a 75 to grow anything whereas with aquastyle, a minimum of 72 to be able to grow anything well. That's just from my understanding from my research when doing my build. I went with 55 3w aquastyle leds though as I am not really that interested in SPS at the mo. All my my corals are super colorful and have grown substantially in the last 5 months (open brain, lobo, candycane, torch...)So if you go aquastyle I would suggest more LEDs if you want to grow anything and everything...I have been growing a monti quite well with 55 but I don't think they count :)

Ya, I was leaning towards bridgelux bulbs obviously because of the price. But if less Cree bulbs will do the same I may go with that. I have a lot of same corals as you, LPS and softies. I may get into SPS in the future though.

yes im using bridgelux, 90 gives me alot of light, there isnt any difference from these and cree leds as far as brightness goes, if you never plan on keeping sps you could get away with much less, it all depends on fixture height and placement of the leds, if it was me, i would go with like 50 royal blue 10 blue and 20 white.

What kind of corals do you currently have and what is your plan for future.
Acans, zoas, lobo, frogspawn, torch etc...no SPS.

+1 on the ratio, I originally went 2-1 RB to white and the color was not great at all. I would definitely get more than my 55 as it isn't that more expensive to add a few more and I honestly wish I had more. I also forgot I also have acans and they have gotten huge!!! I am not sure whether aquastyle still uses the same UV bulbs but just a warning, all mine melted (I purchased in December last year so they could have fixed the problem by now)

On a side note, does anyone else using the aquastyle leds have a problem growing coraline? My sump is covered in it but there's nothing in my DT...

Good to know...

Does anyone have any experience with these Actinic Violet LEDs?

http://www.aquastyleonline.com/products/420nm-Actinic-Violet-LED.html

Just wondering if they're actually 'actinic' like T5s?

Ok, thanks...I definitely don't want too much of a white look.

Are actinic t5 lights not a bluefish colour? The actinic violet mentioned is violet... I am not entirely sure. I use their pinks greens and reds too. I like the pinks, not so much the greens.
