I dont know...it would be nice if people didnt have to stick around for the raffles.  I mean if it was me I would try to get there at the very beginning to get what I want.  Once my money was gone I would go home....  Knowing the raffles wouldnt get called till near the end (and if I wasnt present could'nt win) would basically make me skip the raffle.

Also it would be nice if each sponsor got one raffle box.  So far Dave is the only one who wants 5 raffles.  Just makes more work in drawing the tickets, finding the winners etc.  Sorry Dave, not putting down your idea but if we all did that you are talking a crap ton of raffles.

Each item (except dave's) will be one box, so right now there are 6 items confirmed, and then the ones with Bigshow.

As for doing the raffle's early, I'll give it some thought.  However, if there is a big turnout, I want everyone to have a chance to get in, see, bid, etc.  If someone doesn't get in until 3, it's over until 4, they don't get a chance at it. The longer people linger, the more they spend.  I wish i had a portable ATM!! :)

So probably I'll stick with maybe 2:30-3:30 to do the raffles.  If people don't want to hang around, then they didn't really want the item. I mean, they're pretty decent all around, and seriously, time flies at these things.  I don't think it will be a huge chore for people to sit, have a chat (or more likely gossip) and a sodie pop for a couple of hours.

I like it Salty.  I don't really consider 11 prizes to be a LOT of prizes, that would take about 15min to raffle off 11 items.  I don't think we need to make this out to be more then it really is.

Thanks for you suggestion Darryl, but I will be keeping my items separate so the hobbyist can chose which coral they want to take home.

Thats fine guys....Im not organizing it and it not my prizes.

Im just a little concerned with the fact that we have what seems like a lot of vendors or people coming with vendors (50ppl) and only a 200 person capacity.  You gotta figure that some people will be bringing friends, spouses, kids etc. (not everyone there will be buying something).

Seems like the ratio is a little off to me but IDK, never organized an event like this.  My thought was it would be nice to allow people the option to come and go, especially if there are more people wanting to get in or the place is jam packed.

If space is a concern (maybe Im off my rocker here).  It would be nice to not have to be present to win the raffles (not raffling early, that would limit sales).

I hope we get some more good stuff for the raffles and they sell well...it would be nice to raise some good money for charity.

Here's my 2 cents.  Not that they matter, lol.
I personally like the idea of not having to be there to win.  Name and phone # on the tickets works great for that.  The only problem is that someone would have to take home and care for the items until the winner picks it/them up.

For that reason alone I think winners need to be present.
Now,  say you do raffles early, hold prizes til close to the end, if not claimed by a certain time draw again.  That way we can come and go throughout the day without fear of missing the draw.

The timiing is perfect.  ..12-4. ..when i was at the gibraltar swap. ..few weeks ago....a lot of the good stuff was gone withing. The first 2 hrs ...so yu may have a whole pile of sardines in the first hour or 2.  Then get a hot dog cart outside.  To keep em around till the raffle

I support Davesolo in what he said. Must be there for prize or else someone else will have to hold onto it which all in all will just open more cans of worms IMO.

Donators I think should be able to decide how they want to have there donation/donations raffled especially when it's high end stuff...

I don't think having a pack of frags worth $500 in one box makes sense. I would rather want to see 5 $100 frags being raffled, If I really want "rainbow chalice", but not another coral, I'd rather buy 20 tickets for the rainbow chalice vs 20 tickets for the whole pack.

It's like lotto max, who would rather see one 50 million jackpot, or fifty 1 million prizes.

Just my opinion.

I just like having the idea of people sticking around and getting to know each other.  The swap is about forming new relationships and shooting the  :poop: about the hobby (as well as hopefully making a few dollars).

I think if people were able to claim prizes at a later time it would have some impact on the social side of the event.  It's not like there is nothing to do, as Salty said there is a BBQ and drinks, the event is 4 hours long, its not run all night.

If prizes were claimed at a later date I wouldn't even bother bringing the raffle frags down, which could have bearing on peoples decision on whether or not to buy a ticket (which would hurt the charitable fund the proceeds are going too).  Of course I could bring pictures, but people always prefer to see the corals in person, especially the higher end items.

I can sort of understand the drygoods side of things (as you know what to expect), but as was already mentioned above having someone hold on to the items and arrange pickup times is a bit much to ask of people.

There's going to be a full bbq and an open bar, I think that's enough to keep a lot of people's attention for a while.  Plus there's a sammy's souvlaki about 3 minutes away.  I have to figure out where the closest atm is for those that fall in love with the $$$ pieces :)

Well the guy who wins frag a lots prize will have slim pickings.

IDK....  I may change my prize depending on what all goes down here.

Why slim pickings?

Salty...did you just say OPEN BAR.  dang....Im hanging out at the bar.  I love free drinks.... ;D

OPEN BAR:  A bar that sometimes is closed, yet at this point, is not.
OPEN BAR: A bar that is offering free drinks, and may indeed never close.

Note the proper use of italics ;)

I'm to understand he's bringing quite the selection.  I think the pickings will be pretty good even later on.  He's requested 3 tables, and since I haven't filled that empty spot I may be able to accommodate :)

That said, if there is something like that where it's looking like he might be left with nothing but gsp, I may do the raffle bit earlier for those items :)

Raffle Item #2:25 frags (no price limit) from FragaLot.ca. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<  ??????? Worded as if you are picking after you win.
Head on over to fragalot.ca to see what magnificent pieces they have up for sale.  You will receive your pick of 10 sps frags and 15 lps/soft corals.  That's enough to set up an entire tank, for the cost of a raffle ticket!

I really hope you don't have to be there to win...or hopefully a friend could hold my potential winnings. I would love to stay til the end but I have to go to a wedding in the afternoon. I would rather be at fragfest, believe me...

Yeah I'll clarify with him, but I think he would honor pieces picked up later, or maybe that's how he plans to do it, free pickup, or shipping extra.

You definitely have to be there, I'm not taking down phone numbers and shipping addresses for every ticket sold.  I figure if nobody claims the item in half an hour or so, I'll re-draw or keep the items for myself ;)

Or just put your friends name on the ticket, but have a way to differ between his and yours.

Good. I say someone has to be there to win. This event isn't a store where you buy your corals and leave. Its a community event where proceeds are going to charity.
