live rock in wet/dry filter check out pic???

im setting up my new tank the sump/fuge is a 65 gal wet/dry trickle filter obivously it used to have bio balls my thing is can i load up the filter area with live rock or should i just put the rock in the bottom where the trickle part empty's out into after going thru floss areas? check out pic i drew . not sure if because the rock is in the trickle part it isnt submerged ..the water passes over and tru will it still work as a bio filter i hope u guys understand what i mean lol

Sounds like it would work, the same bacteria will cling to a rock the same as it would a bio ball. Filling that area with rock might cost more than bio balls or other stuff (seen someone use a bunch of $ store scrubbies not sure if it was on this forum or another)

the sump is a 65 gallon?i have a 50 gallon with nothing but live rock and weekly  i use a sock to prefilter for a day or 2 ,external skimmer, that should work fine,used to have a whack of cheato but not at the present,

main thing is lr rubble that will sit in the trickle filter is not submerged, the water is just passing thru and around it will this work as a bio filter or does lr rubble/rock have to be submerged for it to be a bio filter?

mine is totally submerged,bio balls need air to function but live rock works in the water to my understanding,i keep flow going through my whole sump so that all the live rock has water passing around it,no dead spots

only in the display  6 to 8 inches but gonna run next setup bare bottom, and instead of vodka i got a vertex reactor and bio pellets from box of water,gonna give it a try
