ATI SUNPOWER. 407

im thinking about doin this

getting these ballasts off of J and l aquatics  http://www.jlaquatics.com/product/sl-zt5b254/Sunlight+Supply+T5+2-54W+Fluorescent+Ballast.html tow of them, im goin to keep the fixture hood with the legs as its an easy fit on my tank.  then goin to get the end caps and stands. Put them all together and i may just have my light fixture up and running again with my built in moons.

this might work i think lol

ur keeping lps - so high par could be counter productive.

if u do decide to keep sps just make sure you a couple rocks elevated up in your rock work and place the pieces on there and you should be fine.

Was gonna say save your money and buy Lunar add ons. LOL I have a current usa for $15 and its expandable to add other lunar lights to it. I would recommend the TEK 6 bulb for T5HO on a 55g. Dead quiet and you'll have loads of light for LPS and softies (could likely be run with 4 bulb) and when the SPS bug bites you won't need a new fixture. Just my $0.02....

The more I think about it the TEK would be better for lighting on LPS. As for the 6 I'm still thinking about!! But what do u think of my idea to build a fixture from my old unit?? Just like some input before I jump into it and it will only cost 170 compared to almost 400 for a new fixture lol

If your handy retrofit your existing fixture with new ballasts.

if your not handy, pm me how much you want for your old fixture :p

i believe NEOPIMP is selling a gently used 6*39w TEK fixture for under $200

used to be mine :)

granted its only 36" (think you wanted 48"right?) but you will have some neat shadowing on the ends of your tank. You will need to hang it or have some legs fabricated to compensate for the additional 12" of span but you can keep very low light corals (sun corals, softies, gorgs) on the edges of the tank and sps in the centre.

have a look at some builds on RC/R2R and other sites where people use smaller lights. It looks pretty cool - so dont bash it before you see it :)
