Have you tried dosing hydrogen peroxide, 1ml per 10 gals, daily for a week.

I don't have near as much as experience as others on the site but, if there is anything that I can help with let me know. I can house some things for you if needed, I know how frustrating this hobby can be.. don't give up..

Algae doesn't cost money to fix.... It takes time.

First, you need to figure out why its growing. It needs food, and isn't picky about what feeds it. So, the list off the top of my head of "causes"

Old lights, bad spectrum
Lights on too long
over feeding
used live rock (you bought someone elses problem)
Bad live rock (you didn't know you were buying a problem)
improper substrate maintenance (Large particle deep bed, nutrient sink. Needs vacuuming)
not enough clean up crew. There is an animal that will eat, and process everything! Snail/amphiopods/bacteria
bio load - you produce more waste than can be processed

I am sure there are more, but that is all I can think of right now.

Algae is a symptom, you need to be the doctor, and find the cause. Fix the cause, and the symptom goes away.

@MikeB

let me come by and take a look and give a hand i never wanna see people quit completely especially after already buying all that stuff and is hard to get your funds returned.... its probably just something your overlooking. I sold my old 75 to someone in guelph that new nothing about salt and i helped her get started and she has had zero issues after 8 months.

Like i said its no problem for me to come by im not working much right now anyway and im sure someone else nearby might tag along as well... i had a full blown outbreak while setting up after the leak and 2 months later no algae tank is stable and sps thriving so im sure we can tackle your issue in no time

Stick with it. You will regret leaving later. This is a VERY fixable problem. But that is the key, it needs to be FIXED, bandaids will only exacerbate the issue down the road. There is no quick fix, but it can be done with little to no effort once the source is found.

Lanthanum chloride. Bigshow uses it and a few others here. you'll need to dose it regularly to take out the phosphates. hydrogen peroxide is a temporary fix, to remove the algae already there. to keep algae from growing again, you will need a phosphate binder, right? GFO is very expensive over time. LACI is a lot cheaper. Lots of pool and pond specialists carry this. calcium chloride in 2-part is also a phosphate binder.
