shit thats not yours is it Pat?
that sucks, hopefully can figure out how to kill this stupid thing
Kbennet.

Zoas can last for a very very long time out of water, maybe try leave it for even longer and/or try pulling it off manually

Ya unfortunately that my frag. I did cut 99% of that sponge off first. Then let it sit outside my tank for a little over 2 hour ( forgot I left it out) and I swear the sponge loved it. It grew back at incredible rate and has once again takin over the frag.

No problem.  Odds are better if we are both trying things.  Yours looks similar to mine.  Maybe a little more aggressive.
I tried pulling it off.  It's on there really good.  I'm giving mine a few days.  The amphipods seem to like munching on it after I try killing it.  Maybe this time they'll be successful.  If not ill try hydrogen peroxide next.

I used a pen scalpel to scrape a majority off and left out in the room for 2 hours, nothing.

Tried:
Left out in room for 2 hour. - no effect
Scraped off 95% of sponge- no effect

We can add to the list as we go lol keep track of what we have done.
Kbennet your going to try peroxide? I will try the vinegar method and see what happens. Report back your finding and we will add to the list lol.

What about keeping the rock in a container with an air stone? Lots of micro bubbles and water. Zoas should be fine, but the sponge will collect air.

I think exposure to air is a myth. I just read a few RC threads and I came across the same answers about letting then sit out, it doesnt work. Depending on types of sponges also.

For now I have injected little amount of vinegar and letting them sit out for an hour so the sponge soaks it up. I will rinse and place back in the tank, see what happens

Not trying to prove your wrong at all. Just explaining what I've read and my finding. Exposed to air for 2 hours doesn't not work. You also said you did other things and weren't sure what it was that did it. Like freshwater dip. I would try that but I'm scared to lose the Rastas by doing so. According to threads of RC the FW dip should be a last resort. Again not debating or arguing, just trying to find a solution that works for sure.

prob works differently for different sponges,
i know the fancy ones you can buy are very fragile and die easily, while alot of the pest ones you cant kill lol

I'm hearing the opposite if what in reading. I read sponges are very very resilient and hard to kill. I will post links when I get back home
