I have a 220, that is 72x30x24.

I am trying to convince myself that vortechs are that much better than my koralia 1500's and trying to justify the price.

How many MP40's would I need to have adequate flow?

Right now I am running four Koralia's. Two on each end pointing towards each other randomly.

I was thinking of maybe going with 6 MP40's. Two on each side and two on the back wall. Overkill?

6 mp40s in that configuration is a good plan, you could also go 2 mp60 one on each end and then 2 mp40 on the back wall. You'll get the same effect for a little bit less money than the other way. Just a suggestion. Actually I'm wrong, just read your tank dimension. 6 mp40 is a good plan. Wait till you get them they are beauty's lol

Re: How many vortechs?

That is another consideration as well, going with an wavemaker unit like the Tunze 6215, and keeping all the koralias in place for specific directional flow.

Anyone run a tunze wavebox WITH powerheads?

Perhaps when I win the lotto I can have 6 MP40's AND a tunze 6215 and just have water splashing everywhere in the house. ha ha ha ha ha

I have the tunze wavebox and couple of small powerheads, you could likely be fine with koralias and a tunze.

Darryl is using a wavemaker, he has a lot more flow than I do, so he must supplement with a powerhead or two, and his setup speaks for itself.  :)

I don't know if I like how big and intrusive the tunze wave box is though. It isn't a small unit by any means....

Ok, so it is a slow day so far at work. I'm sold on the Tunze 6215. Now to find a good price in Canada on one. Where did you buy yours Glen?

used from DTI on here, I think it was $250 or something insanely low.  I like vortechs but have heard silent ones and I've heard ones that whine like crazy (which is why people end up with multiple wet side pieces I think) and the price...

So not discounting bigshow's setup, I just happen to be a fan of the wavebox :)

A full vortech setup will run me like 1800 bucks. Tunze wavebox is 550-600.

Hmmm.....

The wavebox would not be enough flow alone IMO (on a tank your size, and assuming you want a mostly SPS dominated tank).  You would need to supplement with something else. Koralias or the china knock offs would be good.

Still cheaper then the VT option.  But not quite as ballin ;)

Re: How many vortechs?

Bill at incredible aquarium has them on his site im sure he could order you one.
I run the full size wavebox on my 5 foot 120 and it rocks a good 2" wave. I bought it used off of DTI-*** the pump was slightly noisy, replaced the brushing and attuation disk, I bought of the TUNZE website.
Update: I just bought a brand new replacement pump for the wavebox. $321 bucks fromTUNZE website, then they nailed me with a 19% tax and shipping.
From TUNZE in Germany to Ontario, all said and done with the conversion rate it was $430 bucks for a replacment pump!  :?Almost bought a whole new unit from Bill they are like $579.99 I think.
100% will never run a tank without it! I have the wavebox and a Nano Tunze pump for surface movement and I get tons of flow, with only a Magg 18 for return.
Ill post a thread when I get the new pump, Im hoping its dead quite! :slowclap:

Re: How many vortechs?

I run Mp40s and am impressed with the performance, great random flow.

These badboys can be pretty sweet when paired up with a WXM module and an APEX controller.

The only real issue is that you can't use silent and Vortech in the same sentence  For me, the benefits far outweigh any negatives.

Grab a few Vortechs and you can be like the cool kids. ;)

It's the tunze 6095 wide flow. 100% sync able with wavebox so can be added for added flow if needed.

Re: How many vortechs?

Ordered the Tunze Wavebox this morning. Should be here next week. Weee! Also ordered the Osmolator to finish up my water changing station setup as well. I have all these boxes of new parts and equipment but I am so lazy to put it all together. lol.
