How many people have new tank, how many have used?

There has been much interesting discussion on new vs. used tanks after "The Poseidon Incident".  Just got me wondering: do more people have new or used tanks?  I've had about 7 (I think) tanks in the last 10 years or so.  All used except for one. Never had a leak (hopefully never will!). So who has what?

All used. Well sorry, not my 3gallon jbj cubey piece of crap nano :poop: box. That was "new", all three of them were new before I finally gave up with them replacing faulty lighting and chipped tanks with other faulty lighting and chipped tanks.

the last two used, 65 gal and 135 gal no troubles. So far !
A friend who has a reef tank has mentioned this in the past and I put the question to all of you. Do you feel that wavemakers put extra stress on the seams of a tank which may cause failure? Just a thought that has been passed on to me and I pass on to you
Any thoughts?

I've had used and my 140 is new. I would imagine wave makers do add "some" extra stress. Figure water as weight and u keep shifting that weight around. Just my theory. I like a wave but would rather run else mode as it seem gentler....

In most cases I think you are fine.

Mind you my 150g I bought off a guy that had it setup for 5 years,
Moved it, and set it up for over 1 year, and then out of no where a pin hole leaked happened in a part of the silicone that ' looked fine'

To elaborate on my post. Since salt water I have had a 20, 35, 29nano, 40 breeder, 120 all used. Only owned one new tank about 20 years ago in fresh water. Other then that hellish cubey, I have never had an issues with any tank.

My 1st 55 was new, since then I've had atleast 10 used, never had a problem, I even bought one used that leaked thinking I could fix it but then sold it before I set it up, Sold to guy with a snake.

Tanks were new.

I live in apartments, and prefer the "peace of mind" knowing my insurance will be there if needed!

125 gallon Miracles from BA's, and my current tank is a custom Miracles (36x36x30 with a diamond shape, not a true cube) that was built for me.

IF I had a house, and a basement, I would be buying up "tear down" tanks all the time :)

I have a 35 gallon hex that was my first saltwater tank and is now a freshwater tank.  It was purchased new about 5 years ago.  I also have a 65 gallon bowfront that I purchased new about 8 years ago and it started life as a freshwater but is now saltwater.  Also have a 160 gallon used tank for my seahorses and my husband has a 220 gallon new tank for his saltwater tank.  No problems with any of them.  A 20 gallon used tank for saltwater and multiple 10 gallon used tanks linked to a 75 gallon homemade sump are also in use with no issues.

I've had plenty of both new and used.  My 200 was bought "as new, never used". Guy couldn't get it down his stairs.
If/when I ever decide to go bigger or change things at all, it will be new/custom made.  For the amount of money/time/effort we put into the box, I want a perfect tank.  Zero scratches.  If I scratch it myself it's my fault.  I can't stand looking at someone else's stupidity.
