We never duped so we didn't get caught when they did the resets.  We had an external program that told us if the merchant had a SOJ or not.  One guy would run in and out of town to reset the merchant wares until one showed up, and the other guy just railed through hell getting dumptrucks of cash to buy them.  I think we made about $10 between us on ebay selling those things.  When the big resets came, nobody came screaming back at us either because their hoards of SOJs and super armour didn't disappear.  Our prices went up at one point because we were one of the few with stock lol.  Loved Diablo II!!!!

HR became currency after the blow up of SOJ. Annnnnnnd then those got duped to shit as well.

Apparently diablo 3 has a much higher concentration on keeping gold the currency of choice.

Diablo 3 is a mess.  Blizzard is going to kill the real world money part of it because they just couldn't get it right.  They should have just made a real sequel to D2.

D2 was a mess too man. The economy was driven into the ground by cheaters.

With D3 at least they tried to keep the gold low, and re absorption back into the game realistic.

Mind you I have only really messed around with it for a little but of time at this point but I have gathered the jist of the economy by the pathetic gold drops.

Either way at the end of the day cheaters will cheat and the same thing will eventually happen to this game as it did to D2
