so i bought a TUNZE wave box used,

and the guy showed me it worked at his place,
so i took it home set it all up and then it worked for about 10 min, then the pump just randomly stopped.
the controller lights were still flashing but the pumps stops.
So i took it out and cleaned it out and took it apart,

the pump seems to work for about 10-15 sec after i plug it in and then just quits, if i push the propeller there is some resistance and occasionally it will turn for -0.5 seconds then stop again.
seem like there is some sort of resistance or is the pump just shot?

the pump # is 6251

any help is always appreciated as i think i just got ripped off...

The propeller is binding with the casing...if u have a dremel careful grind a little off the plastic housing around the prop.

Take the impellar out and see if it has the little bottom bearing or bushing in there.  Also, is the collar on the motor block at the top, this will cause issues too if it isn't there.  Lastly, unscrew the impeller and take it off and see if the pump spins without - might need a new impeller magnet as sometimes they swell and bind.

If the above doesn't work, I'd try a post in the Tunze forum on RC, I know I've always gotten a quick response over there.  Hopefully you get it going soon.

Ya the guy I bought it off conveniently isn't available.
The collar is there,
But I dunno if it's the impeller for sure cuz it can work for a bit first before it quits.

+1

Any resistance and they will shut off.  Mine started doing the same thing a while ago...let it run in a tub of vinegar has been perfect since.

Ok, I'll try the vinegar thing first... But it's  a really clean unit, looks almost new,
If that doesn't work maybe ill try to sand the propeller down?

The only thing good about it is the tunze support group and the tunze company really stand behind these pumps.  I would be shocked if you don't end up getting it running 100%.  If I bought an aqueon and it didn't work well I would think "I'm screwed".  But it being a tunze, you'll be just fine :)

I agree... before you get the dremel out I'd get in touch with someone from Tunze just as a double check and as a matter of due diligence...

I dunno, I've heard they're more interested in customer loyalty and brand reputation over technicalities like that.  Something a lot of companies should consider when they want to sell to the public.

Check out the tunze section over on RC... You can probably post your issue there and get a pretty quick response. From what I remember, roger is their rep for USA and he does a great job.

I have read the same thing over on RC. There is a rep for TUNZE that is a member on the site. Great connection.

When I post over there on RC in the Tunze section, they've never asked how I got the equipment, they simply try and help.  Great customer service IMO.  I will definitely be buying Tunze again in the future.

I had the same issue. Go onto the TUNZE website and print off the manual for the wavebox. it shows you how all the parts and the pump fit together. My issued was the person i bought from had the attunation disk in backwards causing a grinding. I bought a new disk and brushings for the ends of the propeller shaft, cleaned all the calcium off and put it all back together and it worked perfect. (the manual helped so much)
The next issue i had was calcium buildup after 4-10 months of use, causing the pump to sieze like yours did. the controller flashed back and forth as if it was running, so I took the pump apart cleaned it put back together and it was running for 5-10 seconds then sieze. I found that if i held my hand in the box and moved around the outer casing of the pump it would let the shaft spin with less resisitance. FInally i found the sweet spot wherre it would continue to work with the front casing part loose but still holding the shaft.
What i believe was happening is over time the electric housing itself was wearing out and not being able to overcome the resistance to spin the properller. I would go ahead with talking to TUNZE and trying a few things before grinding plastic off the $400 pump. seems kind of rammy to me. It cost me like $17 for new brushings, disk, and impeller shaft. It worked great but I wanted to hear what a brand new pump sounded like as this one was pretty loud. SOO
I ended up buying a brand new pump. and guess what,  :slowclap: its got a newly designed impeller which only sits in the pump casing the shaft does not attach to the front cage of the pump which i assume creates less of a chance for buildup/resistance on the shaft!
All in all TUNZE are amazing products! great service and great customer service!
