Help On Tank Dimension

Hey all

I am totally undecided on what dimensions I want to get for my new upgrade.

I currently have a Perfecto 150 (72x18x27 high)

Getting good aquascapes is a challenge and flow is even more challenging.

Here are the options I have narrowed it down to. Money is of course a consideration, but it's likely we will be in this house for 5-10 years so I want something I will be happy with. My wife "gets it" which I doubt but she green lighted it so let's get it done lol

I have some glass from an old tank I'm going to get cut to make the sump. The sump will fit whatever size stand I end up with.

I can go external with my skimmer (MRC-3) but prefer to keep it under the stand. This makes my stand inside dimension minimum 34 or 35"


180 gallon - 72x24x24

265 gallon - 84 x 24 x 30 high

My concern with this is the height and getting into the bottom of the tank.

300DD - epic size. 72 x 36 x 27 high. Lighting it might be tricky but big lumenarcs should do it

Custom. I have a quote from miracles that's a bit more than the the others, but the dimensions are 84 x30 x 24 high. I can pick up from miracles as they are 90 minutes away.

Help me out.

I just don't know what to do.

how long is your arm, lighting it and flow are major considerations but, cleaning it is another..how tall is the stand going to be..

I'm 6'1 so I can reach in lol. The stand has to be at least 34" tall inside for the skimmer.

For ease of setting up lighting stick with 2' increments..go 72 or 96.

If you can only access the tank from the front then 24 depth or 30 max.

Height ...I'm a big fan of the 24 standard...a couple inches more or a couple less no big difference.

love wide tanks I think anything 24 tall and 30 wide is sweet

custom gets my vote! 30 wide 24 tall..the longer the better

Custom gets my vote, 24 is deep enough, I think anymore is too deep for 250 MH and to reach for that matter, 30 wide will give you lots of room to aquascape your Rock and 84 long would be great for fish to swim. Just one thing I'd like to mention. I have a Buddy who had a 180 in his basement and found that he had tooooo much moisture from it and had to install something on his furnace to compensate. Can't think of what it was.

He probably had to do an air exchanger or a de humidifier. I run a dehumidifier on my 150 in the summer. I have to empty maybe 2 x a week.

My basement is spray foamed so the moisture is way lower now even with the tank than before we redid it.

Yes Air Exchanger, When I had my 150 in the Basement, I had a Vent over my tank that went directly outside because my Dehumidifyer couldn't keep up. But you're good.
