I painted the back of my tank black.  Just some black acrylic paint from Home Hardware, can't remember the brand or anything.  My tank has been running for almost a year now and I still don't have any corraline on the glass.... everywhere but there!  I wouldn't worry about it if I were you, especially in a fish only system where you probably aren't dosing ca/alk/mg.

coraline likes to grow INTO the glass over long periods of time, if you buy a well established/used tank, thats got coraline everywhere, you can guaranteed that when you scrape off the coraline they will be etches and scratches all over.

i always scrape it off as soon as i see it
